a very unsurprisingly bleak view from the express.
Whilste we don't know the ins and outs of it all, it seems to be a very brief way to cover what would probably be a quite complex situation, the usual express effort at journalism.
As I'm always one for clarity, I think the club should come out with an in depth statement on the situation.
Without one, well, where there's smoke there's fire!!!!!!
Yet again we would be made to look a laughing stock, and the people running the show, to be incompitant.
Come on ted, let us know what's going on, if you know!!

That does it, 1 more reader lost to the Express.
Always happy to print bad news about us but never anything good.

| Why have we got Diane making comments about the situation???
I thought we recently appointed a new media manager to spin these situations.

| This is bad news and no way to run a business. You pay your taxes before you take your money out for wages, salaries, dividends etc.
If I was a director I would stop paying myself and other directors until HMRC were paid off.
Scary that the club operate so close to the wire and HMRC are not to be messed with. They have wound many companies up before to get their money despite this not being in their own long term benefit.
Glas they seem to have arrnaged a payment plan.

| That's a hell of an amount to rack up owed. As someone who knows little of the tax system, what is the source of this liability and how has it acquired to be so much? Was it from the sale of BV?
12 weeks to find £194K is a big ask even in the season, never mind the off season. It may just be covered by ST revenue.
When the Brough rumours initially surfaced I wondered if it had anything to do with the tax man.

I would imagine that this debt comprises PAYE and National Insurance contributions related to the wages / salaries of its employees and perhaps output VAT collected on gate receipts and shop sales.

Many thanks.
Doesn't look good and it isn't good*. For all the hard work done over the time since the CVA the club is having it's name dragged through mud again. Time will tell if this puts off potential investors.
* I'm actually very surprised by the lack of troll contributions on this subject?

| even if you look at this with the rose tinteds on, this is an utter mess.
To take Dianes comments as they are, basically, carry on, nothings changed, business as usual, is fine, but the key fact is that we are in this situation yet again, and somebody has to take some responsibility and own up as to why. Yes we now have an agreement with HMRC, yes we are not being wound up (yet), but yes prior to that payment we were also £353,000 in debt.
You would have thought with the money from Super League, the money generated by the club, the well known fact that we don't use the full salary cap, coupled with the money from the recent sale of Atkins we'd be far from being in this situation.
How do we time after time end up in this state?!
Whichever way you take this, £353,000 is an astronomical amount of money.
The constant opposition we get from rival clubs, fans and the RFL to being in the division in the first place is more than apparent. When this gets thrown in their faces every other year, can you blame them?

Maybe this explains why Atkins felt he was pushed out of the club? Very frustrating for us supporters but it's something we should be used to by now!

I think to a large extent that's fair comment. In this case, the problem is not so much what you owe (considerable though it is), but to whom you owe it.

I think the implications any trouble Wakefield could have would affect not just Cas but the whole of SL.
For starters, we'd miss our local derby, a major and important revenue stream.
