Firstly I think its unfair to slate newton before he has even arrived (if it does happen).

I think in terms of attacking play - Drew is world class and can tear apart the oppositions defence if given the time and space. He gies us that extra dimension and i feel that at some times this season - when he has been injured we have looked a bit flat in our attacking play.
In my opinion - from the games i have seen he is a bit of a weak point defensively though. He isnt the biggest guy in the world, hes not lightning quick and with his age hes not really one to keep on for long spells.
I would love to get another quality season out of him next year but its not worth the gamble IMO as i reckon he is on a decent wage and this could be spent more wisely. i'd probably let him go at the end of the season.

Newton is a very good hooker and although he has a bit of a reputation and some people will see this as a negative signing i think it will be very good for the team.

Realistically are we going to be able to sign anyone better? Probably not

I can't see him getting away with much in a Trinity shirt!!

Therefore I can't see him being up to much.

Why? It's not like we don't know anything about him.



That's the point. When balancing the books, it's the best we can do. And it ain't bad, for sure, but he won't be playing for a so-called "big club" anymore. Will this be the time when he's found out?

Kear has done well with Latu and the like. Let's hope he can do it with Newton.

bradford haven't offered him 2 years because they have signed a big name aussie hooker on big brass. remember you heard it here first. plus newton is one of those players you hate playing against, but great to have on your side. he is a quality signing, experience, grit aggression in bucket loads.. just what we need. brad was great but everytime he has been with us he has missed quite a few games through knocks. reckon he will miss a lot more next year. great player , good luck to him. if we do sign newton, i don't care what he has done in the past , we should get behind him. its looking like wakey have some great signings for next year

I've supported every player we've signed who's worn the shirt, including those who's signings I didn't agree with, so I don't have a problem there. I just wonder whether Newton in a Wakey shirt will get away with the same things that Newton in a Leeds shirt or Newton in a Wigan shirt or Newton in a Bradford shirt got away with. Plus I don't like dirty gets as a rule anyway.

I really don't like the Newton that has been dirty in the past but he is international class and will bring a lot to us.
I'm happy we are going for him.

When he plays against us he always looks dangerous so why not have him on our side. He certainly stiffens up the defense which is the one thing everybody complains about our current group of hookers.

I reckon we have pretty mean duo in Newton and Leo-Latu. They will cause some bruises no doubt.

I would look to buy a stand off that can play a bit and is not weak in defense and we'll look pretty tight across the board.
and I'd keep Obst for cover for both.

Firstly, I don't really understand the comments about Newton not being able to get away with the same things in a Wakey shirt as he did with previous teams That has a ring of paranoia and 'aren't we hard done by at Wakey'.

Newton doesn't play to make friends, his past antics are well documented and if he comes to Wakey he will bring his reputation with him - we know what to expect. He is though a very talented hooker and one of the best readers of the game playing. He can spot weaknesses in defences and exploit them (as Wakey have found to their cost). Whilst he may not have Drew's kicking game I believe he is as good as anyone in SL at running from acting half.
