| I've had personal dealings with this 'agent' many years ago in the word of property - difficult to say the least.

| Whatever peoples opinions on this agent ,big Dave saw enough in him to trust him with his affairs and that’ll do for me .The program and podcast may not to be to everyone’s liking ,but in a country dominated by football and just about every other sport bar RL I find it an enjoyable watch or listen ,but take the content with a pinch of salt and treat it as the light hearted entertainment it’s supposed to be .

| Not only his he a rambling idiot, his son is similarly vapid.
So is the other bloke they occasionally have on...and don't get me started my the "journalist" Mick Gledhill.
Every time I try to watch one of the shows, I fail to finish it.

The agents merely look at what their cut will be. Can you imagine CH advising any player to choose Wakefield over Wire or even Cas? Has he any connections to Batchelor, Shaw, Croft or worse still Murphy
Fifita was strong and independent enough to look at the bigger picture and have the final say.

My understanding is that Batch, Aydin ,Croft and Shaw all used another agent. The bloke is equally as odorous by all accounts. I really dont understand how these young players dont see through these people for what they really are.
As for Harrison, to give yourself such a name tells you all you need to know. I really dont understand why anyone bothers watching the garbage him and Gledhill put out.

PB it’s not the players a lot of the time, it’s often the parents.
Some are plain naive and have no experience in their own lives that prepares them for this. They think they are doing their best by following the zeroes and why not. Agents prey on the insecurity of ordinary people doing the best they can.
Worse are the parents who do have some experience and immediately take over because they once trialled for Leeds.
To them all CEO’s are robbers, their Bobby is the future superstar they thought he was despite everyone being against them, especially the first team coaches who are just blind to young Bobbies talent.
They stick their ore in all the time, bind to the truth and eventually burn every bridge doing so. The matches of course are supplied by the dodgy agent.
What has happened to Shaw in particular is a total tragedy. Unless the lad gets a lifeline from somewhere soon, his SL career is effectively over. In my opinion the reason for this one lays solely with his agents who has taken Shaw and his family for a ride.
Even if the lad finds a way, he’s possibly will be two years behind where he was at Trinity. That’s a long time in a short career.

| Not rocket science to know why Batch n Aydin jumped ship now is it . As a club we were staring down the barrel and it wouldn’t have taken their agent or girlfriend or whoever much persuasion that the grass is greener elsewhere, and who can blame them . Self preservation before loyalty id say , as the latter doesn’t pay the bills

Not true on Bachelor’s case, more to it than that.
Almost certainty the case with Aydin.
Batch is a quality player and is a hard one to replace, he will be missed. Aydin, could go any direction, KR have taken a big punt on an unproven player.

| Agents are necessary evils.
I have an agent in one aspect of my career and she has given me advice for nearly twenty years. Sometimes it was good. Sometimes it wasn't. They are not fortune tellers and the problem with being the recipient of the advice is that sometimes it's a bit from the hip, or just a thought with one client that she then forgets she voiced, but for the recipient it's the only advice they are going to get and rely solely on it.
On the other hand, they know the ins and outs of contracts, and can work with people in other countries, and stops the clueless mug being taken for a ride, or from agreeing to what sounds great but then becomes less great when the fine detail is put into effect.
I'm not saying club chairmen take players for a ride or exploit them, but without agents some perhaps would.
Agents are like lawyers: parasites, but a world is sometimes better with them than without them.

Maybe more to it as I’m not privy to his personal life ,but I’ll bet it was certainly a motive in his decision .I dropped on him at the last game outside the giants ground and wished him all the best for the future ,great lad and cracking player , but history now .

I think there is a world of difference between a literary agent and most RL agents. Not to put too fine a point on it, they are dealing with adults, many like yourself who were already well educated and worldly wise long before you wrote a book. Sure you need their advice on a technical level but I'm pretty sure Slugger that you were more than capable of spotting a rip off by yourself.
These are kids, many from ordinary families, families that in a lot of cases have no RL connections and thus nobody to seek advice from. They are ripe for exploitation, far more than your good self. I'm not saying there is not a requirement, though frankly I know for certain that you could achieve similar results if you just consulted an employment based Solicitor and an accountant, at a fraction of the cost long term.
Had my son been good enough I'd have negotiated for him, I'd have done so for free and because I'm confident I could have done. In truth I'm as qualified as many of the so called agents out there, in that I'm not qualified at all!
However if they have to exist they need cleaning up, and the RFL should create a register of approved agents who must pass rigorous scrutiny, assuming that doesn't already exist. Only then will I consider the a necessary evil or necessary option to be kinder.
Finally, I'm not exactly sure what people think club Chairman have to gain by exploiting any player. it's not the days of Frank Machin anymore. They want good players for their club and they want to keep them so we have success and we make money - so highly counter-productive to con a young player who you'd like to keep, just a thought.

| Lets be honest here, the club paid Dave a shed load of money. He was hardly on the breadline.
We did well out of Dave and Dave did well out of us.
Not entirely sure why his agent is bragging about it.

| An employment agent is a useful resource. As a sports fan, who doesn't see the contract negotiations I'm not sure how anyone on here can say they aren't good.
It might not work out for our club but it doesn't mean it isn't good for the player.
It's just some are better than others.

Think what said agent is alluding to us that he had offers to move for probably more money but stuck with us . Read into it what you will, but he has been one of our best and could have walked into most super league clubs but stuck with us . Don’t understand the bragging bit ,maybe with another agent we wouldn’t have had big Dave’s services for so long .

Or maybe Dave was big enough to get his own way and disregard the advice of his agent.
