The author, with David Armitage, of '100 Years of Rugby' and 'Dreadnoughts', which are both essential works for any Wakefield supporters, along with match after match of excellent, informative programme notes makes studying the history of Wakefield Trinity and who it got to where it is far from the chore it would be without it.
The detailed programme notes especially add colour to the most mundane of fixtures, with facts, stats and colour on the club's various opponents and legendary players.
When the club finally gets it's backside in gear, and institutes a Hall of Fame for those who built this club, his name is one which should be included,
Thanks for your work Mr. Lindley.

You know if anyone at Squadbuilder or the ST can get the rights to that book I see no reason why we can't add the next 30-40 years??? to it and have it on sale for N/M. I mean it's half written already!
I can do the technical stuff (that's my day job) if others do the research and contributions. Add a few bit's in like the history of BV and Kits and bingo.
Anyone interested let me know by PM.

| I second that Vasty. I would be very happy to buy that book but who would be the modern historian with bit of flair for writing the next chapter? TBH it is a big job to do right. I'm a publishing professional but only on the page make up/design side. So it would need a committee with a leader (editor), contributers (any of us),
someone experienced in Print buying and publishing (for organising printer and legal stuff). There would also be some upfront costs in buying the copyright of the old book and the use of certain images for the new section and of course the initial print run (probably cover that with subscriptions).
I know in the last few years fans have become weary of this and that organisation being formed to help the club. However this one is far more fun and self indulgent but with a real end result. It would IMHO be a pleasure - but I'm no organiser so someone needs to step forward if it's gonna happen.

| Why would you need to buy the copyright for the previous edition? Why can't you just start with the 1970s? You won't be able to match the style of the original author without a lot of trouble anyway, and it may not reflet the expectations of the modern market.
That said, you'd be lucky if you sold 1,000 copies. So it's vanity publishing at great expense. You'd also be lucky to keep down a day job, do the research required, and come up with something in the next few years. This is a job for someone who's retired (or maybe writing a PhD).
I'm not saying it isn't a worthwhile aim, but there's a huge amount of luck involved.
If I were retired, I'd love to research and write it - I mean that seriously.

I agree it would be a tough job.
Would need a lot of input but would need a writer not a fan to do a good one.
On the subject, anyone know what this is?
Obviously no details but someone must have posted it on Amazon, and the authors have done a few things already....

I think I made it fairly clear it was a big job, but if you don't ask!
Why does the style need to match Who'd want a book with only half the clubs history Why rewrite what already exists
A 1000 copies is very pessimistic, but if you say so - it's still enough.
I think your underestimating the can do/build it in a shed mentality of the British - maybe you've been with our teutonic cousins to long
Luck has nothing to do with it, just the desire.
Try this for what fans can do www.saints.org.uk/saints.org.uk/ ... age_id=283
Any way it's fairly irrelevant because I've only had one reply

I think the specialist nature of the task narrows down your options fairly substantially.
If you're serious about it, you might want to contact the fella that does the Trinity Heritage stuff on Twitter - he seems to have a wealth of information and resources.

Some of it is that's for sure - but anyone can contribute as a writer (within reason).
But it needs an editor to pull it all together and a few meetings.
I can't see it happening but as I said if you don't ask you never know - it did work with the fanzine for a while. All I'm really offering is my expertise should anyone wish to run with it, it would be mean not too

I write a lot but I'm certainly not a writer.
I could perhaps do some proof-reading? I could correct spelling mistakes and grammatical errors with pithy, sarcastic notes in the margins?

| how opportune
I've just been made redundant and start a period of 'gardening leave' tomorrow until my end date of 31/8 - my plans were to concentrate on writing, which I do in a semi-professional way - but wanted to 'up the ante' and see if I could get a serious publishing deal.
I would be up for doing this if I could get the support of the club and a few 'choice' contacts to support me with some of the raw data required (i.e. website owners, enthusiastic amateurs, the club, the express etc etc).
I could really do with having a chat with you Vasty and getting a better idea about how this could be achieved - so PM me and let's get something started

thanks - but I really did see this as an opportunity I've worked for the same employer for 34 years having originally come from an art/writing background - I've bored so many people to death with the "what I could have done if I'd stayed doing that and not been tied down with a full time job" that this seemed like the time to 'put up or shut up' - so it genuinely was my plan to attempt to make a career out of wrting - you can imagine my surprise when I returned from holiday on Saturday - with 1 day left to work - and saw this topic.
Bullboy!!!!!!! How very dare you
