| Welcome to the madhouse.
What you're actually doing is admitting that the decline of WTRLFC is really all your fault. What would the club have been like now had you not deserted it at its peak?
If we club together and buy you a house in Flanshaw will you come back? I've heard we can get one for 2\6d these days.
Are you planning to attend a game? It would be interesting to hear how you feel things have changed.
P.S. I'm envious really, being born 2 years after the last win at Wembley I've never known what it's like to support a classy team.

| I live in East midlands, having left Wakey to seek my fortune 10 years after you, DV.
Bought my first Season ticket in ages last year, to show solidarity, as I was so pussed off with Wakey getting bad-mouthed by all the media luvvies ( compare their reaction to Trinity's plight last season with Bradford's currently) -didn't think I'd get to more than a couple of games, but oh no! : this season got my wife one too - had forgotten how much I'd missed the exasperation & gallows humour that comes with following the Dreadnoughts ( how's that for nostalgia!) plus the trip up & down A1 = quality time with my better half.
Be careful DV: you can leave Wakey but Trinity won't leave you

| Quote: Don Vines lookalike "Apologies for this, but I'm sure I'm not the first. This is my first post, and I just wanted to introduce myself. I am Wakefield born and bred, but now living near Peterborough. I stumbled across this website and it set my memory going. I followed Trinity from 1959 to '68, when I moved away. I have fond memories of names such as Round, Smith, Skene, Fox, Coetzer, Prinsloo, Poynton, Rollin, Wilson, Kosanovic, Vines, Turner, Chamberlain and Don Fox. I used to go up to the bus station to get a ticket for the away matches and spent happy hours at Central Park watching Billy Boston, Knowsley Road and Tom van Vollenhoven, Wilderspool and Brian Bevan, Mount Pleasant Batley where Neil Fox was in danger of kicking the ball into the town below and Crown Flatt where I saw Fred Trueman during his brief spell as a RL pundit. That's not to mention the thrill of going to Wembley as a young kid and straining to see Rocky Turner lift the cup before my dad whisked me away to catch the train home and the pleasure of shaking Neil Fox's hand last year during a brief trip to Yorkshire. He has a grip like a vice! I used to walk with my mates on Saturdays from Flanshaw to Belle Vue and have so many happy memories.......I remember paying 2\6d (12.5p) to get in, giving Eddie Waring a good-natured jeer as he climbed the ladder to his commentary box and the arrival of floodlights...magic! I could go on and on, but enough to say that I still look out for Trinity's scores (can't get used to Wildcats...) All the best from the Peterborough flatlands.
Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride.
Some great memories there and most on here awill agree about the Wildcat thing (but the younger fans seem to like it)
Do you still make it to many games ?

| Same era as myself.
I too miss the terrace banter ,the highs, lows and even feelings of desperation.
Been in France now 6 years and Trinity and my close family are all I really miss, Oh pork pies n fish n chips.
But life is a compromise.
My Geordie wife agreed to settle in Wakefield so I could watch my beloved Trinity.
She spent 36 years there so how could I say no when after many holidays in France she wanted to settle in France.
Still it is really special when I do get to a match.
On the plus side getting to Perpignan is a breeze.
Forever a Dreadnought.

| Hoping to see you in Perpignan Jacques mon ami.
68 to 79 were great times. Wilderspool, The Recreation Ground, a large brick at Naughton Park.......memories
The mutton tikka starter followed by mutton tikka main in Southend was interesting just like the 3 day old pork pies.
Wintergreen, tie ups, Fletcher the stretcher, the Con club, Skerrett's wall, Wally,....
50 years man and boy, bl..dy love it.

| I lived away from Wakefield for over 23 years but the Trin blood never thins
I always missed my home town and of course the mighty Trin
having started watching in 1959 I was lucky enough to witness the glory days of the 60's
Like an earlier poster said you can take the boy from Trin but never Trin from the boy .
Maybe just maybe I might live to see the glory days return who knows ????

I lived on Denhale Avenue; born in 1948; great for sledging in the winter in the evening under the street lights; some folk put cinders on the path for safety; we used to nip out with loads of snow to cover up so we could get a long run. We reckoned we should be able to reach Alverthorpe Road; we didn't have a cat in hell's chance!

Firstly, apologies for not answering sooner, Coco!
I admit that Trinity's decline is my fault; in fact, it was me who seeded the clouds and caused the Watersplash Final. Trinity would have filled the Town Hall with silver by now if I hadn't moved away. If you can find a house on Flanshaw for next to nowt, I'll be up there like a shot.
The ball handover changed the game so much. I remember when our front row used to stuff the ball up their jerseys and take it forward a foot at a time. It was so tedious to watch. The players are much fitter now; I remember in the early 60s watching Trinity lose badly against Leeds days after Christmas; we looked as though we had had too many second helpings!
Very occasionally though, a dull game would suddenly ignite; I was at Belle Vue watching a drab game against Batley; it had been bad-tempered from the start with lots of ref intervention. A scrum went down with us leading 13 - 2 and the two front rows came up swinging like mad. The ref waved his arms in despair, whistled, abandoned the game and pointed to the dressing room. We all looked at each other as the players left the field and thought ' Right, better go home then........'
