| It is not making a scapegoat of a particular player if one gives an honest appraisal of his abilities.
That does change if one continually highlights their mistakes and deficiences whilst at the same time ignoring other players not performing well.

| Agar for me, his honeymoon period wont even merit the cutting of the cake.
If we get off to a bad start, i can only imagine this forum will soon mirror the Hull FC one.
There's plenty sharpening the knife already, and James Elston could well cop it too.
Sad but true, lets just hope we get off to a flyer, otherwise it'll be narnty narn beargers at farv o clock (thats 99 burgers at five o clock in Hullish!!) on here.

That is as good an explanation of a scapegoat I've seen so far.

| Morton does need to improve he owes us one after that braindead error in the cup against Cas. The shudds signings I will still say they are pointless ones. As for scapegoat i think mathers is in the running ; i think Mathers is a good player and he had a decent game against Leeds boxing day. But I have the feeling even in his good games people will say he was poor.

The irony meter is on overload, but yes Mathers may well be one.

Morton is better described as a poor player with similar issues to Mark Field, ie not ready for regular 1st team Rugby but keeps getting put in the team by the coach. Don't know if Morton will ever be ready. Like Field, the pressure he's bearing is sending him backwards.
I personally dread to see his name on the team sheet.'"
Brad Drew went from hero (in the HKR game) to scapegoat a couple of seasons ago !

| I think Mathers is a strong contender - he's an easy target, being both intermittently dodgy and having a bit of attitude.
I also think Agar is in the 'at-risk' category - most people seemed to have reached an uneasy peace with his appointment, but if we get off to a bad start in what is a run of winnable games, that will quickly change.
On a more positive note - who will become our folk hero in 2012, to replace the talismanic Les Barbu? I've got a good feeling that Lauatiti could become a fan favourite, and Kyle Amor was certainly heading that way at the end of last season.

| I wish to retract my original statement of scapegoat nominee, as the nomination has now been endorsed by the forum numpty. I would also state for the record, I believe that as the same person endorsed Messrs Raleigh, Kirmond and Morton they should also be withdrawn from the running for the award of RLFANS WAKEFIELD TRINITY WILDCATS SCAPEGOAT OF THE YEAR 2012.

| Quote: Khlav Kalash "Granted I’ve not been to either friendly so far, however of the games I’ve seen Morton play, I’ve see no justification for singling him out any more so than any other player with respect to errors. He had one major brain fart in the Cup last season, but other than that he has coped reasonably well in a position that for the past number of years has been notoriously over exposed at Wakefield.
Every single winger has come in for criticism, but time after time they are left with trying to deal with a three on one situation and so have to make an immediate decision on what to do, unfortunately every single choice will result in a score against competent opposition. Scoring opportunities were minimal with the reluctance (or inability post Brough) to spread the ball out wide so there was little chance to shine at the other end of the field, but in my mind Morton has always come across as a good finisher when given an opening.
He may need some time on loan/dual registration to rebuild his confidence or focus on areas of his game where he needs to work on, but should I see his name on the team sheet for Trinity, I certainly wouldn’t dread seeing it, no more so than any other player. Perhaps that incident in the cup is clouding people’s judgements?'"
Tend to agree with you on this. In the friendlies so far this year he has been one of our weaker links, his catching has gone right out of the window (has it had with all the team on boxing day, and I think this looks a big problem already this term). Dual reg would do him more good than harm.

| For my money the expectation levels are way too high I like all supporters want to see us in the play offs and have a good cup run. I will be pleasantly surprised if we finish higher than 10th and make the last 8 in the cup this wont be good enough for some so the boo boys will want victims
I see Mathers being the number one target the fact that he was good enough to play and win trophies with Warrington,Wigan and Leeds wont matter to the average Wakefield fan
The stick young Morton gets makes me sick hes a young kid who has never let us down he gives 100% the fact that he maybe lacks the pace at this level is a another matter I will never have a go at a player who gives is all for the club Tommy Lee last season comes to mind.
Agar will no doubt be a target and I also see Tim Smith being a target if things don’t go well early doors.

| Dale Morton never let us down ???
What about handing Cas the cup tie
Stupid action With 2seconds left, with Cas on the ropes
Morton lacks awareness of the game
Positional play rubbish
Not big enough or fast enough

The terraces are covered with many fans who, given the chance to wear a Wakey shirt, would give 100%. I wouldn't want to pay money to watch them flap about getting steamrollered for 80 minutes either!
It's not Morton's fault, it's Kear's/Agar's for picking him.

Am I reading this correctly ?? You are seriously saying Tommy Lee gave his all for WTW ?? If that's what your saying then you must have been watching with beer goggles on, I'd take a look at the highlights of most of the games and I think you would change your opinion. He's even had a laugh on twitter about wakey fans paying his wages.
