I realise of course I might be being too charitable and the result in the end is the same unfortunately.'"
The fact he still didn't come clean about it when the shareholder meeting took place at the beginning of the month suggests to me that he was being dishonest. If he had made a genuine mistake, he could have at least tried to justify his logic.
I think people should stop trying to look at an alternative theory to all this, your helping the club write the press release that will no doubt appear on the website shortly saying how ted and the club were victims of the property and economic crash

You'll probably recall a few years ago (around the time the club was "sold"icon_wink.gif the rumours doing the rounds that Eric France and Sons wanted to buy the club. The general consensus then, amongst the vast majority of posters on here, I should add, was that this may not be such a good idea... because the one thing that everyone wanted at the time was the ownership of the stadium, i.e. the potential development land. Most people at the time were sure that with council backing, the Thornes Park stadium would go ahead, so for an outsider with, say, a million to spare, there was a big fat profit to be had from the sale of Belle Vue.
At the time, our chairman said that he wanted to make sure the ground was used for the benefit of the club, and said he wanted to put the ground in a trust. You [icould[/i argue (and I see you're very much the kind of floating voter who might be persuaded by this) that he bought the ground precisely to protect the club from the fate of being usurped for profit, even though he didn't have the money to do it himself, and thus went through this elaborate (to us) mechanism of the company in the IoM to conceal this actions. The club would pay rent to finance the interest on the loan to the Bank of Ireland, until such time as the ground could be sold and the loan repaid. The belief, as it existed at the time, that real estate would continue to soar in value, would protect the club from any loss incurred through the financing of the loan. With a stadium at Thornes Park, the club would have been debt free, with a million or more in the war chest, and a spanking new stadium to play out of.
My client has nothing further to add at this stage. Thank you.'"
So why did Wakefield not receive the full asking price?

Either way we are in the smelly poo. As you say it doesn't really matter what his intentions were, its gone too far for him to carry on.

Take this whole ground sale out of the equation, and you can still count the major errors under this regime. Employing a chief executive who was never fit for purpose, and is still on the payroll. Appointing Tony Smith as head coach when clearly not the man for the job, as his CV shows after leaving Belle Vue (hope his flats still earn him a few quid.) There's 2 anyway, and very little on the positive side of the ledger to balance that out.

Well if the Bank of Ireland operated like other European lending banks (not UK lending banks) at the time, even given the real estate market in Ireland, it would have factored in a percentage of the market value of the real estate (anything between 20-40%) in order to recoup its losses in the event of default. Presumably, what remained would have been the total money available to the club.

And yet I take it you would champion the right to use message boards to voice opinion that challenges the mainstream?
I know - it was tongue in cheek - isn't it always?

Yes of course, but by now I think it would be clear that there is no plausible explanations for Ted's actions, other than "look after number 1 and family"

The fans signed Kear in all effect.
Remember that Sky game at home when we were commentating and I think Neil Fox recommended him too. IIRC he was not Ted's 1st choice.

And yet here we are, a few years down the line, with all and sundry screaming for Kear to go. That old hindsight thingy again... isn't it wonderful?
If only we'd listened to Ted, eh, Mopsey? We wouldn't have Kear now.
