A last-minute attempt by Cronulla to re-sign Anthony Tupou hasn’t been enough to stop the lock from leaving the NRL.

Despite the Sharks wanting to keep the former Australian international, a lucrative deal from England will see the 31-year-old join the Super League.

It’s understood Tupou will link with former NRL coach Brian Smith at Wakefield on a two-year-deal.

Great signing if confirmed,a good asset and beating a NRL club to his signing,we must be doing summat right.

I think I've said this before but I'm uncomfortable with "lucrative" deals. I don't like the idea of over stretching on one player.
Saying that, if part of the value to make it lucrative is working with Smith and having a new start in a comp that benefits a free spirit ball handling forward......as well as a bag full of cash, then great.

The team looks a whole lot better with him on the team sheet.

I'm thinking we have quota space

Anderson, Sio, Miller are the only overseas players currently contracted.
As we are allowed 5, I wonder if that restricts us getting Godinet and Tupou x2.

If Lautiti has been released, would that not make 3 quota spots available, following the release of Locke and Smith.

If so then Tupou, a centre and half back

Wasnt Ali exempt from a quota space because hes been over here so long?

Only negative comments are regarding his age and some feel that they are doing the right thing by bringing in youth.
