Assuming we have offered to increase that to, say £15k, which is still cheap as chips, would you say we should pay him £45k???'"
it isn't quite that straightforward and it isn't that much! heard that there is a bit more plus a job offer which takes it to a larger amount!

Well I would say that depending on the job offer then it could be a good deal. Playing careers are not that long and if the job gives him some experience and trainign in something that he could do after Rugby I would think that would be good for a young player.
having said that, I don't know what the offer is, if it's cleaning the loos then obviously there's no future merit in that.

| The lad himself was a bit upset that this was being discussed on Twitter last night - it's probably a bit unseemly to be taking about the small details, given his age and the issues involved.
When I negotiate my salary, I don't usually have an audience of anonymous people chipping in their thoughts!

| Agar funds these trips himself - he's looking at new coaching developments in Aus as well as trying to unearth a few hidden gems; the goodwill of players like Collis, Aiton, Smith & Poore won't do him any harm in that endeavour.
If he comes back with another of the same quality of any of the above, I take my hat off.

Well if you had the decency to tell us when your pay review was, I'm sure we'd all chip in with our view

It's not a mistake by the club then.

Fortunately, I only negotiate with myself and my accountant these days, so I won't be inviting views from RL Fans!
Thanks for the offer though

In hindsight it would have been better to say that we had made an offer and we were waiting to hear back from the lad.
Having said that, pro players will always have things said about them and at least the guy is in demand.

| A couple of people on Twitter went way too far - Ben Cockayne, never shy, jumped in to shut them up and it escalated from there.
He's a young lad and I'm sure if he fulfils his potential, he'll get used to this sort of nonsense; seemed a bit OTT for me though and probably a bit of a shock to him. Amazing what a local derby hat-trick can for your profile though!

Fully agree with this.
I think the harsh reality is - The lower leagues in Aus are better than the lower leagues over here.
I'm confident that there will be a number of players rotting away at a feeder club who could come into our team and make an impact. I think the onus is on Ager to make sure they can adapt and settle down - unlike John, Southern etc etc who struggled.

I think we've probably done just as well with our home recruitment from the lower leagues as we have from Aussie lower leagues, when you look over the last 10 years or so.
RA may just be there to learn more from other coaches and to improve himself. He does take his job seriously, thank god. A model to many, I'd say.
