| So with people being split on mathers, how would people feel about Brett hodges on for a year or 2 as his contract is up at wire and I've not heard of him signing an extension?

| Been a cracking player but at 34 we need to be looking at other options for me unless it was a low cost 1 year option to help bring a younger player on at the same time.

Think that Brett would be on too much money for wakefield tbh. If we sign sykes and L Smith we would have cover at full back as well as with ben cockayne.
Dont get me wrong i love the way he plays the game and the fact he can kick goals from all over the park but is he a player we can warrant spending a large chunk of wages on.
Do we know if Aiton has signed an extention or is it rumour??

| Hodgson would not come to Wakefield. He'll want to finish his career on a high not a low and would only go to a top 4 club if he wanted another year prior to going back to Aus.
Mathers overall has been good enough for a 1 year deal but WTW should try to get him on less than he is on now as money really needs to be spent on the front row with two top SL quality props supported by retaining one of the best hookers in the league Paul Aiton. Then we need to get Andy Ellis back to his best and coming off the bench as an impact player from dummy half instead of Kyle Wood.
Think Southern and John need to go and be replaced with 'Big Dave Taylor' and Roy Asotasi from the NRL.

Hodgson - a very good player but too old and too expensive an option for Wakey IMO.
Mathers - worth another year but only on our terms and not on the reputed £90k he is on at Cas.
Ellis - I cannot for the life of me understand why he has not been given even 1 single chance to show what he can do. I would love to see him given a shot over the last few weeks of the season but if he is not I would think he will be looking for a way out and who could blame him?
Isaac John - I would like to see Isaac given another chance also, I think he has taken a while to adjust but I still believe he has some quality that we have not fully seen yet.
Southern - It's been a little disappointing with Southern but I think when he has played he has shown what he is capable of. Another player who I think could still come good.

Dave Taylor is a current QL SOO player and has already signed for Gold Coast for next year. More chance of signing Dennis Taylor...

.... and he’d still get the nod over Andy Ellis.

| If he has got a contract extension this is fantastic news.
As John Lennon said when asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world and replied he isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles.
Well Aiton like that. He isn't the best Hooker I've ever seen even at BV. Technically I've seen better and a hell of a lot worse. However for sheer consistency, effort and pain inflicted on the opposition he's second to none.
It's these players who make the foundations of a great squad and are vital for the future. In my 25 years following the Trin I've lost count of the number of these players we have let go to sign the fancy dans!
Aiton along Amor and Washbrook make three players of genuine quality with a solid work ethic - build a pack around these three and we will start to win games. Next year (hopefully Amor stays) they will be stronger as a unit. Players like Kirmond, Walshaw and Marriano will thrive on the back of these players.
Break the bank and sign Paul Gallon if you really want to shorten the process

You're right I'm exaggerating the point but we could do with two good genuine NRL standard big props (Tronc standard not washed up overweight has bins like Hickey) who would be willing to come to Wakefield on a 2/3 year contract.
We can't afford to carry players on the quota that don't contribute to the first team. For me the quota players should be your top players that are automatically picked for the first 17 and some of ours aren't. We might as well work with british players and coach and develop them which will probably be cheaper.

Thats just cut our 30 points a game down by at least 15, him and Aiton would show the rest how its done.
You can but dream.

Think Andy Ellis has signed a further months loan deal with Featherstone!, so it doesn't look like agar is even going to give him a chance.

What about Scott Geddes (31) who is retiring from NRL at the end of this season maybe a step down to WTW for 2 years at SL level? George Burgess (20) is also out of contract at the bunnies at the end of this season and can't get into the 17 at Sydney?
