That would be the same Leigh who finished 2nd bottom of the league last year (before he took over) and are now 3rd in the division and within 1 win of going 2nd?
Whilst I am no expert in the recent history of Leigh, and my timings might be slightly off, he does seem to have done a decent job, no?
I agree with your last statement, but what relevence it has I don't know. You could also say the same about 80% of the overseas players in the league. Go and ask supporters of Huddersfield, Wigan and Warrington - you really think they wish they had kept John Sharp, Brian Noble and Paul Cullen/Jimmy Lowes?

OK but you can also look at the amount of money these clubs have spent after they left, and the World class players they have assembled, it does help. I would like to see that boring tool Tony Smith ( who also could not get a job in Aus) coach our steaming piles of dung.

| As a contributor to squadbuilder, might I suggest that coaching staff and conditioners fall within the remit of the fund.
We could then use some of the funds collected towards paying some one decent to come in and strengthen what are key areas within the club. No point putting money towards signing decent young players if we are never gonna realise their potential at the club cos the first team coaching staff are no longer cutting it.

| A toss up between Darryl Powell, who got a very raw deal from Leeds in 2003 and is doing very well with Fev this season and I've also thought Karl Harrison has always been a decent coach and his recent cup success with Batley has proved it. Wouldn't have Millward as since he left St Helens he has been all mouth and no action. So either Powell or Harrison would get my vote.

Your argument doesn't hold water.
McQuire at Wigan basically has the same team that Noble had - and taken them from also rans to head and shoulders above everybody else so far.
Tony Smith laid the foundations of a Champion side at Leeds and has taken a Wire side that has underacheived (and also spent big money) for years and years and years and made them genuine contenders in about 1 year.
Huddersfield have too spent large amounts of Ken Daveys money for the last few years and are only now, with an Aussie coach, starting to realise their potential.
I dont argue that they are only here becuase they couldn't get a gig down under, and if they did they would be back their as soon as they could (see Brown at Hudds for proof). but the thing is we will get left behind if we dont follow suit in my opinion, and yes - Millward is flawed and not perfect, but then again we have had to make do and mend for years on both the coaching and playing front so its nothing new there.

Apart from him taking Leigh from bottom of the league to very near the top inside a year? People seem to have a bee in their bonnet about him because in his betting column he tips us to get beat more often than not..... Clearly he is clueless about RL!
Harrison has failed before on a shoestring budget, and for personal (financial) reasons he would be very unlikely to leave his position at Batley. This leaves Powell, reasonable contender in my opinion but I think that Millward would be the better option because in theory he will have more contacts in Australia to help us - and like it or not we do need overseas players.
Internesting nobody mentioned the guy at halifax yet, say one thing about him - they know how to play attacking football and like to thrown the ball about.... They even have a few planned moves too, so he is already 1 up on Kear

Wigan, well we will see, Noble was 80 mins from the last 2 GF so he did ok, but McGuire has strengthened the defence, but as yet they have won sweet FA.
Cullen was one of the lads, and no doubt did not do the squad justice. The squad is better now than when he had it. The new players have had 2 seasons to get up to speed, the thing that Cullen did not have. Look at Richards at Wigan, he is superb, was garbage first 18 months.
I also did not say They, I said Smith could not get a gig down under !
Brown should be at the top of the comp with that lot at Shudds mate !
All aussies and Kiwi's out now!!!

OK - I will agree to disagree with you and offer 1 last word as we are starting to go round in circles.
But the fact remains that the 3 clubs mentioned are all operating on what you would assume are the same budgets as the last few years (longer for Wire & Wigan) but with the Aussies in charge are undoubtably better sides than with the previous Brits in charge - this is an undisputable fact.
Maybe its down to better player recruitment at Wire and Hudds, but ultimately the coach is normally in charge of both aspects and on a similar ish budget the Aussies get results but the UK boys dont.

| Powell - Done a superb job at Fev this year and would like to coach in SL and would certainly sort the player's attitude out but the question is will you get another franchise? Not being funny but as things stand it's touch and go if you will get one and for him to move only to end up back in the Championship would be pointless.
Rhino - Again, on a shoestring budget has gone a great job. Not sure that he'd want to move
'Country Mile' Calland - A fair few Halifax fans would love to see the back of him. Not SL standard IMHO.
Kear - Oh dear. Talks a good game but he's responsible for your current plight.
Millward - Once his duel regestration players went so did the teams performances so don't take what he's done at Leigh this season as a positive
Whoever you go for I think it's time for a change because the results lately have been awful. The question is do you have noney to strengthen because if you don't then whoever comes in is going to struggle

Part of the problem is the lack of pride effort and basic RL skills being displayed recently by the team under Kears coaching. IMO, I have no doubt that a new coach could freshen things up and that a number of the players we currently have are good enough to compete at this level with better coaching and a few key additions (a controlling half back being the key one). Therefore the budget for new players is not the major issue, it is getting a couple of signings right in key positions and being able to get the best out of the majority that are still going to be here

Regardless of whether Trinity get a license or not, next season is a shop window for players, and the same goes for the coaches. Although Powell is doing a fantastic job at Featherstone and there is no reason why he should want to take over the mess at Trinity, it still is a window of opportunity to show off his skills as a coach at the highest level in this country.
If the new ground gets approval and Trinity gain a new license then he’s got another 2-3 years to showcase his abilities. If Trinity are unsuccessful in gaining a new license but perform well throughout the season, then there is a chance he could take over at another club who offload their coach.
