Top six 2005 - Trinity.: |
|
| I would say 3.
Glover stated Kirmond and Raleigh part of the 5.
So John, Tongia, Dowes I think and Obst may be signed as an addition.
Unless there's a surprise in there that is.

Out of context, you win.
However, I was responding to a suggestion that Obst would pass on skills in the HB role to Moore; I contest that he wouldn't. I'm not sure where Tongia comes into it to be honest.

Obst has had a good year at scrum half for Hull imo they ripped sides apart when he and richard horne were halfbacks, like us, cas, salford, saints (in the first half) so if Obst is paired with a good stand off I don't see the need to complain because he would be an imrpovement, plus there's not many quality halfbacks available.

He doesn't, if truth be told. It was a gratuitously provocative remark, inspired by your (IMO rather unfair) assessment of Sam Obst and a generally bad mood.
Sam has been a consistently good performer over a number of years, and I don't think you achieve that without some semblance of a rugby brain. Whilst I wouldn't want to "big him up" unduly, I don't think he quite merits the uncomplimentary appraisal you've given him. But it's all about opinions...

| Obst & John at halfback is no doubt an improvement on this year but Obst would be better coming off the bench as a replacement hooker for me with a genuine quality number 7 coming in. Not sure whether one is available though.

Obst has no kicking game, no real rugby brain and certainly can't run a game from half back; Moore has the potential to do all those things so if he's to be mentored, it should be by someone who can actually do the things he's meant to be passing on.
Sam Obst was then - this is now.'"
Yeah but Bren don't forget he's a 100%er who can tackle well above his weight. What more do you need in a half back?

| So if Obst signs they'll be no Tongia then, too many overseas players.

Some talk of Bradford Northern and some of Hull and Leeds
Of Wigan and St Helens and such great teams as these
Of all the teams in Rugby league with me you will agree
The best team in the whole wide world is Wakefield Trinity!

So be it!
Charlie is a better fullback IMO. Tongia has fundamental areas of improvement, as does Charlie, only difference his areas of improvement have never been on the field. Tongia IMO needs a lot of defensive coaching for FB, or even on the wing really, far too easy to get by. On top of that I don't like loose carries, he cost us on a few occasions when the ball hit the deck after a loose carry.
I'd much rather have Fox & Mort on the wing and Charlie at FB, with Tony to cover either position in case of injury.
Tongia may become a gem, but IMO we can't afford to develop him at this time.

Would be good to add Lee Smith or Mathers in there too.
