| Quote: PopTart "I don't think it was really going to crash the forum for this to be on the old thread as it was already dead but it's a good topic so we may as well have it as it's own thread.
Personally, my life revolves around music one way or another.
Work and family life mean I don't go to the smaller gigs that I sometimes went to in the past but there is nothing better than stumbling on a live act you've never heard of who can play.
I used to go into HMV and Borders back in the day and just pick CDs up that looked vaguely like something I might like and played them on the music stand. Found some great music that way.
My tastes are as eclectic as they come. I've been to see U2, Darkness, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen but I've also been to see Madonna, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Gloria Estefan..........right through to Simply Red, Elton John even S Club 7 (who were great by the way) and Spice Girls.
I've seen Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, Buddy Rich for those that know who that is
I like the country stuff too. Went to see Shania Twain and Dixie Chicks. One of my favourites is Lady Antebellum
I've seen Robbie Williams at Knebworth with 100,000 other people.'"
I'd really be impressed if you'd been to see Joe Bonamassa

Superb band, managed as a 15yr old to get into the changing rooms at Leeds uni to meet them, got Scott Gorhams (sp) chewing gum, still got it in my old scrap album alongside Zac Cleminsons (remember him?) plectrum and a rose from Joan Jetts stage outfit. I was hardcore in those days.
Thanks for separating this topic from the original poptart.

I heard Billy Bragg speak with his usual eloquence about the resurgence of live music the other day, and it really resonated - basically, there is a deep human need for communion and shared experience, and a gig is a rare opportunity to connect with a musician who speaks to you, in the company of a room/hall/field full of people who feel the same way. I love it, and it never matters to me that I'm one of the oldest people in the room - I go with my daughter quite often, and we always have a whale of a time - especially since I've brainwashed her from a young age into liking actual real music, where people play instruments and sing with their own voice.'"
I go to gigs with my daughters every now and then, mainly the Cribs, I've been called all sorts for knocking off a thirty year old woman at my age, never put them right.

Not much booked so far. Angelic upstarts in April, Long division (got ticket but can't go) Uk Subs in October and Butlins alternative festival also in October.

I saw Philip Lynott's Grand Slam at Nostell, of all places and saw the late great Gary Moore quite a few times

No problem. The Hull board used to have topics like this in the mid season break. You'd find some kindred spirits on there.

| If you could travel back in time to see a band or solo for that matter who isn't around any more who would you pick?
I think I'd certainly want to see Elvis 68 comeback concert but band wise I think I'd like to go back to see the Who in their prime.
Obviously the Beatles are big but not with all the screaming girls. I reckon the Eagles were pretty special in the 70s.
More modern times I'd have liked to have seen the Jam live and I nearly went to see Queen in the 80s but my friends all fell out with each other so we called it off. Big mistake.

Queen for me also, but I saw Quo live for the first time in 76, brilliant, would love to go back to that gig.

| T Rex, love em, I never liked or appreciated them as a kid, it's not till I've got older that I appreciate how good and how advanced they were, they wouldn't be out of place today playing live.
Never saw the Who in their prime as in the early 70's but saw the in 78 at Stafford Bingley hall and Wembley in 79 (I think) supported by the Stranglers, Nils Lofgren and a little known band ACDC.
The Jam I was lucky enough to see a fair few times, my best memory Jam wise was May 79, Friday evening Sheffield uni, great gig, met Weller after and got his autograph, midnight train to London, challenge cup final, Trinity V Widnes.
I could waffle on all day music wise.

My first live music (on my own rather than with parents) was Madonna at Roundhay park in 87.
First live band would be U2 also at Roundhay Park in the rain in 93. Shame on me I missed a lot of big bands there in the 80s.

| Hawkwind were really the only group I religiously followed back in the day. Still got a loft full of vinyl.
