From what i have been told of the square footage, i would not consider the size "relatively small" at all,and i worked in the building industry for a very long time.

Like I said, ask Yorkcourt (or whatever name they're trading under now). The Council seem to be still offering £2m towards the project. If they don't then the trust and club will have to find to cash but the bulk will come from the developer. Whether they have it or not (or are willing to spend it) is a battle for another day.

Was it in planning conditions?

Supposed to have been, but they're all up in the air at the moment.
If it all goes to plan, then the requirements for the stadium are; (A) that the developer can build and occupy 60,000sq.m of industrial units before they build the stadium, and (B) that £2m must be contributed by council/trust/club towards the build.

| At the great risk of embarrassing myself by my naivete but as the proposed Newmarket ground is a community stadium for the benefit of 330,000 people, is it eligible for partial funding from the Lottery once the 60,000sqm criteria has been met.??

There's lots of funding channels which can bring in some money, the lottery probably being one of them. The issue is that all of these gunning streams won't offer anywhere near enough to fully fund a stadium so we need to have the developer hit the Sq.m first. Funding applications are also much more likely to be successful if the development is ready to go instead of asking for funding for a project which may/may not happen

| Thanks for that Egg Banjo. I was thinking more in terms subsidising all or part of the £2,000,000 should WMDC renege in any way.

Funding streams are quickly drying up which could become a problem. Lots of European funding will disappear over the next couple of years and they ringfenced quite a bit of money for communities. We'd need to get smart about what we offer to maximise funding streams available. We'd need to provide multiple education opportunities for young people, community sports and community activities such as dementia cafes and walking football, a rugby league museum (or at least a local area museum) and arts facilities/installations to access Arts funding. The money is out there, but the trust will really need to diversify what we have available in the stadium to maximise other funding
