| We now had 6 FT so called professional refs and video technology yet the standard of refereeing in RL is a an all time low as for the linesmen we may as well put two guide dogs on the line with flags
week in week out we see forward passers nonexistent play the balls etc etc and sadly blatant cheating is coming into our game
We have a ref who cant count and gets a one game ban its pathetic
Sack all the FT refs go back to part time and scrap the video ref for me

yeah, horsewhip the lot of 'em !!!
seriously though, I feel the general standards are ok with the occasional hitch as we have always had - the big difference for me is in the fitness of the officials nowadays compared to say pre SL
Alibert is probably the fittest ref around, pity he can't count ?
the VR has been brilliant IMO - especially on premier Sports where the ref is actually heard talking the move through with the VR and explain the decision - great innovation, again IMO

But that's not SL is it
If the standard of reffing was as bad as SL in the fannyball premiership, then we would hear about refs getting the sack and not 1 match bans, our game is currently at an all time low IMO with the standard of reffing only being one thing, but is probs the easiest to put right, the linesman are a total joke but I have heard that some ref's tell linesman that they only want them to flag for touchline infringements and nothing else, so the ref makes every decision other than the player/ball going in to touch
Needs sorting, some of the stuff being shouted from the sidelines at linesmen and ref is disgusting but it is not totally unexpected when you have "Paid {Professionals" doing a pretty poor job, if they performed that badly in a normal day to day profession they would be in a queue down thornhill street or wherever the local jobcentre plus is in their town

doesn't matter if it's SL or not - I think the innovation is good and i'm sure SKY will copy it soon and at the same time ditch that blinkin' Margin Meter thingy !
can't agree about your reffing comments - bad decisions have always been made and always will be - the refs would still be of similar quality even if they were paid ten times more than at present - linos have to be given more powers to help get the correct decisions - many of the linos don't seem fit enough nowadays and aren't up with play as they used to be IMO or is it that the game has become more speedy ?
I still reckon the pro refs are fitter than ever - their errors are shown up and magnified with the telly coverage nowadays but there's no excuse for Halibuts inability to count to six FFS !

| I could have dreamt it, but wasn't there a try awarded to Bradford? at BV in challenge cup tie? in the 80s? where they broke from our 25 and was tackled 5 yards short but the ref awarded the try as he was approaching the half-way line trying to keep up.
Anybody?
reality/urban myth/senility

Reality, it was awarded by Robin Whitfield who was subsequently known as Robin Wakefield.
Late 80's early 90's IIRC.

| I have a vague memory of that game think it was around 1985 but not sure, remember the name of "Robbin Wakefield" being chanted at a couple of games too
I see you put link now, thought it was longer than that but sure you're probs right, just my old age creeping in, now everything in the past comes up in black and white, even if it was last week

| The worst decision I remember at Belle Vue was the first ever televised match on British Satelitte Broadcasting (before they merged with Sky). It was an evening match against Wigan. Ellery Hanley crossed the try line yet whilst still fully stood up (I think it was Richard Slater) tackled him and Hanley blatantly dropped the ball from chest height. The ref gave a try and the rest of the entire match was filled with chants of "Cheat!" from the Belle Vue crowd.
A good way to begin televised rugby league on satellite tv in the UK.

It cost us the game!
Remember it well, it was Neil Summers who was way short. Wasn't just that decision either, he was shocking all game. Mind you I seem to remember Peter Benson having a 'mare with the boot as well. Not the only time that happened.

Yes it was definitely Neil Summers.
I went with my Dad and were very close to the no Try. I was seething for the rest of the weekend!

| Same applies for this one iirc, a tale of missed goalkicks and refereeing cock ups. Principally a try awarded by Colin Morris on the seventh tackle! Some things don't change!
