Cas were relegated under P&R when they finished second from bottom. The bottom club that year was an expansion club - Catalans. Same situation you now find yourselves in with Crusaders.

It was a massive injustice to the players & the fans (as it is this year) and I expected history would remember it so, and I also expected it would make the game a national laughing stock.

Turned out it barely caused a ripple even within the game, let alone outside of RL.

It also turns out that 5 years later history doesn't really remember anything about it, outside of Castleford of course.

But that was P & R, and the rules (stupid rules!!!) were set at the start of the season.
This is not about P & R and the rules seem to change from week to week!

set and voted for by the clubs. i had a lot of sympathy for cas at the time. however at least they got to fight out their fate on the field of play.

maybe they'll be binned and not us, truth is that they've kicked our backsides massively on the pr front.

I seem to remember Wigan were in the mix that year as well - until they cynically breached the salary cap knowing they wouldn't be held accountable until the next season.

In hindsight, one could argue that, that decision proved to be a success in regards to the "Catalan experiment", to me they are a very progressive club, turning out french players year after year, good attendances at home, though they add little to the match day business of the hosting club. If only after 30 years, london had been such a success.
However at the time and in all honesty still now i fail to see why another team had to suffer, to reach that end result.
