Perhaps because one of our financial backers has volunteered to pay it for us....it happens in sport, and is usually called sponsorship, but in Wakefield we like to play it differently, and keep people guessing

Have not bitten your troll bait so far. Just felt I ought to point out that as far as I'm aware the payment was something to do with off -shore payments to players and new tax rules regarding them. All clubs will have to pay these including your MEGA rich and seemingly perfect club. Our debt is now paid in full - when your bill finally arrives - and it will - are you sure you can pay it? Let's hope so old luv.

| As i've heard it,the tax people hit the little guy (Us)first, when they've hit the little guy they've then set something of a precedent, when that's done they start workin up the ladder to get the fat cats,as Vasty points out, everyone in Super league is gonna be gettin a nock,so i'd keep my mouth firmly shut because it may well be your turn next ambernotyeller!

| That's what I heard, that it is an issue affecting all the clubs and that the RFL were fully aware of the issue, and that Wakey was the test case (presumably because we won't pay for the fancy lawyers). Now that the case appears to have been settled in favour of the tax man, a few more demands should be flying around.
To be fair to Cas, I think the issue involves overseas players principally, as I think it was the image rights that the overseas players cash in at home that were causing the problems, and Cas have a lot of homegrown talent, and so may affect them less. We had some players, however, who were in reality Aussies but outside of the quota, like JD, Korki, Hendo, and so the proportion of actual overseas players was perhaps higher at Wakey.

as usual smcb you are correct basically it may just target the bigger profile players whose "image rights" would be greater, heard three clubs mentioned as next batch but as i dont know the facts ill not post them.

| Quote musson="musson"I wonder if this payment may be the first step in sir rodney taking over as chairman of trinity?
Pure speculation on my part but SRW is not the sort of guy to waste money
Any one else thinking the same?'"
From what I was told ages ago, he had no intention of getting directly involved with the club again, so I'd guess the Chariman stuff is unlikely. What he was concerned with was getting the stadium built. He has put considerable effort into brokering the deal, so the motivation is at least in part down to wanting to make sure no obstacle like this gets in the way. I think those suggesting a financial interest in the development ought to be a little more dignified.
I wouldn't be suprised at all if his generosity was recognised in some way in the finished stadium.
