Quote: snowie "at this rate the council will be capping the attendance for fear of extra traffic by the public using their cars by the reading of it, not everyone walks or uses bikes to get there
do you not think the council have gone ott with the recommendations'"

No, not really, not compared to what I have seen in the past. Remember these are recommendations only by people who are paid to make them on certain issues, for there own sakes they have to dot every I and cross every T, Most will be ignored or watered down in consultation. It's like every transaction, you go in hard and then you negotiate to a compromise.

I can't see any recommendations there that would stop the stadium in its tracks.

Knowing how the public sector works, it is all about showing that they have considered all the relevant policies. If anyone sought to have any planning decision overturned, it prospects of success would depend on whether they have properly taken into account this aspect or that aspect.

Concerns have been raised by people whose job it is to raise them. And to be fair to residents, it is true that a fan zone will probably increase noise outside the ground compared to how it was before. But for the decision to be ratified properly, they have to show that they have taken all relevant objections into account before reaching their decision, balancing each accordingly and mitigating where feasible.

As for the car issue, I assume there is a new target for vehicle use. Someone ought to point out that the original plan was for an out-of-town stadium, where nearly everyone would travel by car.

Quote: Dunkirk Spirit "I think they are nit picking, regarding how people travel to the stadium. They moan about increased traffic levels, forecast of an extra 490 cars once stadium is built, (we hope). They just allowed a petrol station with mini super market/coffee takeaway built a hundred yards away from stadium, the recent relief road and new housing/commercial development proposals, how much traffic will/has that increased? The argument of an extra 490 cars on match days is laughable. The stadium plans provide for 40 cycle spaces, apparently this is nowhere near enough.
They want people to find alternatives to a car for travel to the stadium, good luck to away fans
, corporate hospitality guests, and the majority of older home fans. Some people in authority, just don’t live in the real world.
Regarding the construction traffic, I’m confident an experienced contractor will be aware of regulations.
I know I’m biased re the stadium, but this council i find less than helpful.'"

You application for redevelopment works at Belle Vue Stadium have been turned down on the grounds that they are not in Castleford.

I assume you’re joking otherwise that’s a touch extreme icon_eek.gif might have been the case once but I don’t think it’s a major issue now.

There is plenty that could scupper this latest effort but I don’t reckon the Cas issue is a major worry. Truth is I don’t think Cas have faired all that well either. Why every other Council seems to be able to make these developments happen and we can’t is a mystery.

Take it there was no concern about noise when the travellers fair were put up.

It’s just standard planning procedure, same comments will have been made on every sports stadium upgrade in recent years, Can’t see a problem with the Belle Vue application.

Someone in the industry told me we’ve enlisted the services of a top notch planning consultant so these wordy queries from people who are employed to write such analysis doesn’t particularly worry me

Very much tongue in cheek vasty, but I'm sure that the Box era has left big impressions on some of the remaining members of the Council. Isn't his lady 2nd I. C. still around?

Whilst it doesn't manifest in Castleford town centre itself, just look at the development in Cas over the last few years; all the new housing, the Junction 32 development, the gigantic Xscape complex, new railway station and new bus station. They must be bring ing in millions for our beloved Council. These would all be jewels in the crown of a lead city in a region, let alone a "satellite" town. Hence my facetious remark.

Ps I feel somewhat proud that I nearly got one over on the great vasty icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif
