| [quote="PopTart":i0a193fb]I don't see why this is being criticised yet.
It's a swap deal so it matters how good the other kid is and he's meant to be good.[/quote:i0a193fb]
But not good enough for HKR it seems,
I don’t like the look of this deal, we know how good Boothe is, he looked like a class outside back in the making and if we wanted to stop HKR taking him at the end of the season we should offer the lad a better deal.
Time will tell I guess

| If it was an option I’d probably keep Booth but we have a lot of centre options.
To me it looks like if we can add a bit of muscle to NC there could be something there.
There’s got to be some potential there with his rep at academy level. I’m confident the back room at Trinity can mould him to his potential.

| If this comes off not only does Powell rate Neil, but also feels we need to strengthen the wing area. We haven’t seen Johnstone or Russell as of yet. I really like Walmsley but he is unproven at SL level. Rourke did great the other week on the wing but he’s a FB.

Current wing options are :
Johnstone
Walmsley
Russell
Roarke
Delaney
Croft (can play wing and has done)
Pratt (will likely play centre but went well there Boxing Day)
Croft looks to have bulked a bit now so may be more a second row/centre option.
Russell is only here one year and Delaney I’m not sure where his future lays so it makes sense somewhat.

| There's Sinfield too who is a (admittedly young) winger...think Croft will be used used more in the second row this year due to his size as he went very well in the second half against Cas ??

what do you reckon when its been the policy to retain players especially when its KR.listen if a player isnt intrested in playing for the club then we are not intrested in him are we.

Fundamentally we signed him on a 1 year extension, meaning other clubs are free to talk to his agent now. KR are way ahead of us in terms of competing but behind us in youth products so are buying what they feel they are missing (although Booth isn't a product of our academy) and are an attractive proposition for players. I don't get the outrage really. He showed up well in the championship but never pushed anyone out of position, so why all the gnashing of teeth now.
Edit - Just seen it's a loan move, so the noise will increase but it doesn't change anything if Booth was off in 26 anyway, in fact it means we have an extra body for this season.

| A player who presumably has his sights elsewhere, perhaps wanting to burst into the first team a bit sooner, is released. Fine. We get a player who played for England academy and plays in a position where our star turn has a history of serious injuries. I can't see a problem.

| So the Rover's winger comes and sits in our reserves for a year in the knowledge that he then returns to Rovers for 2026. Looks like an absolutely pointless bit of business from our end with a token face saver given by Rovers.
Rovers shout and Powell and Ellis jump on the shovel

Booth wasn't playing for us this year regardless, and looks like he was off in 26 anyway, this way we get a player who can fill in on the wing this season should he be called upon and is a bit of a unit.

I see it as insurance in case one of our first choice wingers goes down (and that is always possible with TJ). Whatever the deal, we have a player on loan elsewhere, but perhaps better to have the one who can fill in better if we lose a key player in that position. I doubt they would have let Booth go if they thought he'd be with us from next year and beyond.

His contract is up with Rovers this year unless they extend, having taken Booth that's not going to happen, we can look at him and sign him for 26 and beyond

agreed, however the optics could be better.. Particularly given the player retention policy... Also the 'loan' aspect of the move could be better explained, we are losing a really talented young player and getting someone on loan in return... That really does echo the Trinity of old, regardless of the situation behind the decisions.

| as an aside... One of the things I dislike intensely about the NRL is that a player can announce they are moving on to a new club, 12 months before they actually move. As a fan I don't want to watch a player playing for my club who has mentally moved on... I can't cheer for someone who has made that decision. Now that rule is in the UK and I still hate it... I like that Trinity have tried to work around that conundrum - Myers in through a transfer fee... Booth booted out early and NT brought in.

Have to admit I really don’t like it either. A player can theoretically sign two contracts for two seperate clubs in one day. One for 2025 and one 2026 before even pulling on a training shirt. I’m really not fond. It promotes 3/4 year deals and 1/2 year deals come with risk.
I’m not sure what was wrong with the old system. It worked fine.

| I'm not too chuffed about this I have to say , feels like the Trinity of old to me .
Whether Booth has had his head turned I don't know but the optics still look poor to me .
The club have got most things right since Matt took over so it's disappointing to lose a young player like Booth who clearly has potential .

No-one who we want to keep will be moving because of money, however, as I said before HKR are ahead of us on the field so will be an attractive proposition. It seems like Booth had decided to go, and we've let him go early to secure a player we also have an intrest in, all be it on loan, to have a good look at him to see if we're still intrested next year.
