Quote marc271841="marc271841"Because he's in control of the club.
Because he's overseen the recruitment.
Because he's cut the budget on the playing squad year after year.
Because he let Willie and Cummins leave the club and seemingly handed the job to Applegarth (nowt to do with cuts though)
Because he thought Wille couldn't secure us a top 6 finish with this squad and Applegarth could.
Because he's failed the make Wakefield Trinity an attractive proposition on and off the pitch.
Because he's had 10 years to grow the club and failed.
Because we're in dire straights and he's done nothing but swap our best player for a squad player (but without a full back we'd not win a game.... How's that working out?). Oh sorry my bad he's brought a few Huddersfield reserves on loan for a couple of week....
Should I go on?'"
It's hard to disagree on any of this.
We had a great opportunity to try and build on those two top 5 finishes, but didn't.
The crowds had increased a little, it is true, a successful, or at least a more competitive side, does bring more fans in. Remember how we would spend the cap if we got crowds up to 6k.
What we should have done here, was market the club back then. Why wait 5 years like we have to get out in the community.
Another thing going back to that time, it was documented that we spent about £450k short of the cap, and finished 5th, twice. I don't think to be at least competitive we need to necessarily spend the full cap, if we can get that investor.
Also, we now have too many ageing players in this squad, where we have let players go past their sell by date
