Ryan Hampshire is a bit of an enigma. He has not been first choice in any position, for any club, but always brings something extra to the team when he plays. He has speed, enthusiasm and an eye for a gap which makes him a threat to the opposition.
It depends on whether he still sees himself as a first choice SH at SL level or whether he can come to terms with being an excellent utility player.
I feel it's his decision making in possession that stops him going to that extra level, maybe that will improve with experience but likely to be compensated by loss of pace.
This makes putting value on him as a player very difficult and lead to protracted negotiations.
I hope we can keep him.

I've seen Schonig come of the bench for Melbourne a few times on FOX. If you want a straight up and down prop who takes the tough carries and does his share of tackling but don't expect much in the way of silky skills, he's your man. Looks to be a tough cookie, but then most RL props are.

Mr Carter as said that we can not compete with the super daddy clubs when it comes to buying players .All we can hope for is to take a prop ,that is let go to make way for a new overseas signing by a bigger club

That doesn't mean we can't sign players, we just have limits. We have a quota spot free and I suspect we can afford to fill it assuming we can find a decent player at decent money.

If we intended to use the quota place for a centre would it not be correct to assume that will still be the position they are looking to fill first be it from the U.K. or the NRL.

Not really. That's just the position they actually filled first (and then didn't)
It doesn't mean that was the biggest priority, its just the deal that was done.
There will be multiple conversations going on at the same time even for the same position.
If you waited and did them one at a time you'll have a squad of 5 players by the time the season starts.

Gabe Hamlin was another name linked to us earlier this year when his ban was up.

He was on a 12 month scholarship at Wakefield, then FC took him on a 2 year scholarship and at the end of that Wigan approached Normanton Knights who held his registration and signed him from them, the why's and wherefores don't really matter.
