| Quote cheshirecat57="cheshirecat57"So if Chris Chester doesn't think that position needed improving last season ! Why did he sign Sam Williams?'"
Same reason he signed Hampshire - its's called back up - not meaning to sound sarcastic but it's not a new phenomenon.
Also why do you assume Williams was signed as first choice over Finn or Miller, as far as I was concerned he was competition.
Personally I think Hampshire will force his way into the HB's however I don't necessarily believe it will be at Finns expense. Just my opinion.

Can't see any team in super league signing a player that would have been on very good money and taking up a quota spot, As a back up player.

I honestly haven't a clue why he signed Williams, but what I do know is that a man I know who sponsors a player every season wanted to sponsor Williams last season and was told by the chairman that it would cost him virtually twice the price of anybody else, the main being that as he would be the goal kicker, and the sponsors advertisement would increase significantly.
Maybe that's the assumption that Williams would be first choice.

| Allso worth noting CC picked Williams at scrum half and Finn at hooker for the first game of the season against Hull.fc last season!

Ok change I'll that to competition if that helps you - again why do you assume even if Sam were first choice it was Finn to be dropped. These days H/B and No 9's are interchangeable so to me calling anyone 'first choice' is misleading.
As for the Hull game, wouldn't you want to see how your new signing went and wasn't I don't remember how he used the bench in that game but I can check on Trinity TV and get back to you.

| Finn might not be the sharpest player physically on the pitch but his brain is very sharp and if he can put the fast guys into spaces he doesn't need to be a speed merchant himself. Alan Agar did a similar job when he was at Wakefield years ago.

| I’ll weigh in with an opinion on this.
Within our current squad, Finn is the best halfback and is a must selection week in week out or the team doesn’t function smoothly enough in attack as we saw in the one game he was dropped for last season. His experience, control and distribution is a huge asset and compliments the players around him.
However, a lack of pace hurts his impact as an attacking threat but this isn’t his only issue he is also a less than average defender who often lets his man through the line, more so than any other halfback I can think of.
The real difficulty Trinity face is where to find a replacement who’s good enough to bring Finns assets while offering a mix of youth, pace and greater defensive strength. My guess is that if we found one, either here or down under, we’d be facing masses of competition for his signature.
Till then or until he retires Finn is the best we’ve got.

Although I agree about his defence he does make the big tackles when it's crucial - he did a few blinders in the WC.
Miller is one of the better defensive halves in the league he's come leaps and bounds in the last few years so he tends to compensate for Finn.
