| Best Coach by a mile was John Kear, his teams played simple but generally enjoyable RL which gave us from 2007 to 2009 3 years of constant Rugby. He had a poor final seasons but those without selective memories no the reason 0 and - they were still better than this lot!
In fact I'd have him back now, best fire fighter in the business for me, dinosaur or not.
Andy Kelly was hard done by, we will never know if he could have taken it further.
McNally flattered to deceive, with Solomona on the form of his life and a number of players doing the same any coach would look good - lucky?
The rest who cares

Totally agree Vastman! Consistently got the best out of his players, consistently picked his players in the right positions, consistently gave every team in the comp a game, consistently got results. Whatever anyone says we knew that nobody was ever gonna thump us. We maybe had an odd thrashing once in a blue moon but not at the rate we get with this clown these days who can't do a thing with the players he has at his disposal. Kear easily the best with Andy Kelly second for me.

| Yep, Kear, Kelly then McNally. Although a special mention for Harbin, not sure how we stayed up that year either so he deserves some credit for that.

I used to think Kears main weakness was settling on his best team and blooding youngsters - but compared to Agar, nuff said.

| Kear for me.
Would like him back before we get down to 6 games this time though.

| The one that took us to the Etihad Stadium two years ago will take some beating. Good driver, , and an excellent view from the front seats. I think it was one of David Palmers!

worked on the scholarship under harbin he was a good man. that season drained the life out him. i can remember running on to him at salford hugging him and we both had tears in our eyes. he was a man who tried to develop coaches and players. he asked all the coaches what we thought of certain players he would always answer back with do you think he is better than what weve got or can replace what weve got or he wouldnt sign them.

If such a position in RL really exists then Harbin would have made a great Director of Rugby rather than a coach. Similar to Ferres but without the desire to become involved in non Rugby matters. Both these men were not really Coaches but did understand players and teams and we have missed such a man for a while IMHO.
One thing is without doubt, Harbin had a real knack with younger players and that alone was worth whatever we paid him.

Very. Badly let down by a bunch of free loading players who cared nothing for the club

There has been an away win at Leeds more recently. Late Luke George try, if I remember correctly. Was it 2008?'"
It's a very short paragraph that reads like someone trying to find something nice to say about the wife they don't really want to be with any more

| Quote: wrencat1873 "Kear gets my vote, for "the great escape" and his utterly dignified manner in
great adversity.
Also, the squad that was assembled in his last season was put together on the threads of a shoe sting.
Finally, the thing with Kear was that you got the impression that when the chips were down and all hope was gone, he could still get that bit extra from his players .
Mr Agar at the moment, seems to have dropped into the same category as
Tony (Casper) Smith and we all know how that ended.
Perhaps we need to line up JK for the last 6 games of this season.'"
There is no debate really, surely??? Saved us from the drop 2006. Came within 10 very bad opening minutes of a Cup Final. Highest SL placing in 2009. Moreover, we rarely looked a rag tag and bobtail bunch of disinterested losers under him. He got brick bats off some on here for unidimensional play. I would dispute the reasoning for that opinion. First rule of RL; CONTROL THE FOOTBALL. (Would someone kindly take this into the dessing room at Leeds as Agar seems not to be getting that point across very well). He referred to his famous 'procees of Rugby League' a lot; he understood that before you can play any flashy Rugby you have to have a base to do it from and the field position. Before you can expand you have to have the basics right and he got us getting the basics right 9/10 times. We also played some good stuff on occasion and NOBODY took us for granted as they do now. Kear any time fo me. I was gutted to see him go when we got some money into the club (or so it seemed!)

Harsh El Rey, surely. That promotion was a major achievement. I have to say, having met him and worked briefly with the team in 98, he is a very decent guy, a good motivator in the dressing room and a good man manager. I thought that we splashed the cash on Goulding et al, whose attitudes stank and badly let him down myself. If he made a mistake it might have been that he allowed too many of the side who went up to go. There was spirit enough in that team with a little strengthening to have kept us up. Maybe he had no say. Keeping Garen Casey might have helped too.

It may harsh and he'll no doubt give me a harsh slap next time I see him.
I wasn't being 100% serious.
