| Quote: Egg Banjo "Or, as I said at the time of Ford leaving, they know Long is a championship quality coach at best which is why they wanted Ford in as DoR to oversee the drive for promotion. And now we've got him. I'm sorry but with the absolute state of decisions the board have been making lately, I've no patience for this level of nonsense. Applegarth doesn't need more assistant coaches, especially those from the championship - we need rid of Applegarth and an actual super league quality coach in place. Unless of course the boards aspiration is for Wakefield Trinity to become a championship club, which would make sense employing a championship standard coach.'"
Looks like you’re in the minority again EB
Could be a very shrew appointment.

I don't care if I'm in the minority when the majority are wrong.
Let's all remember that the minority were calling for Chester to go long before he actually went, and had the club made the tough call then, we wouldn't have been in so much of a mess as we're currently in.

| Quote: Trojan Horse "Wow. Ford leaves trinity and becomes an amazing coaching wizard who oversees other coaches and is the guiding light of all.
Long who has lost only 2 games from this season and has placed his team at the top of the championship (a lot better than the aforementioned Ford at that level) signs for trinity and instantly becomes rubbish.
We could sign Demetriou or Bennett but would you be happy then? I’m not so sure.'"
Ford was signed by Fev as DoR with the explicit plan of preparing them for SL. Long is a good coach at championship level, but there's a reason he's come as second string into the bottom club of the league and not as coach or as assistant at a higher placed club.
Would I be happy with JD or Bennett - of course I would, I'd also be just as happy with a Super League quality coach, instead of a juniors coach with a sub 20% win rate at first team and a smattering of lower league standard assistants to try and guide him, all while having his hands tied by a board who seem completely disinterested in investing in the club

If I remember rightly, you were one of Chester's fans who were happy to see him sign old players on long and costly contracts and you now think Applegarth is a superstar coach with his sub 20% win rate

So from the signing of an assistant who was head coach of the top championship team you’ve managed to snipe at the current head coach, the board of directors, the incoming assistant, the lack of investment.
This appointment should add to what we have in the back room and be a positive move. At the very least let’s see how Long goes. He can’t be any worse than Ford whose SL assistant coaching record sits at 0 wins.
Despite a couple of blips we have been much improved and hopefully that’s a spark to finish the season strong and to spur on the club to better things in 2024 and beyond.
The first half of the season went. We have picked up some from recent months and if we maintain and improve from here then I’m positive we can look forward to a brighter future.
Going over and over what’s happened when we are right in the mix is hugely counter productive and unnecessary stress and emotion. It wasn’t great and we all lived it but other than a few bumps the right on display has been much improved.
Let’s back them and if we fall come the end then that’s when to pull it apart and have at it.

| Long is more successful as a player than anyone spouting on here. He's a winner.
As a coach this season, he's lost 2 games.
I'll take that.

| I quite like the idea of having someone whose won x amount of medals on the coaching team - think the last person was Michael Monaghan?

I agree. He's certainly a winner.
But in terms of the last one....
Willie Poching ....... Grand Final, Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge winner
Chris Chester........Challenge Cup winner

| Up with the best of British halfbacks , a winner ,a right character , yet a week or so ago when Mash said he was close to announcing his assistant long was still employed by Fev . Strange times at the club , but if he inspires the players to perform at a better level and more consistent,I’m all for it

| Should hopefully provide some fresh impetus to the coaching regime following Ward's arrival at Cas. I hope to see a lot more attacking strucutre so were not just reliant upon one pivot at any one time. We need to win 4 games in my view to have a hope of staying up, starting next Friday.

I would say 3 wins would be enough, if one of those is the Cas game next week.
Despite some very tough home games the fact we have 4 left out of 6 and they only have 2 has to go
in our favour, especially with our current home form.

| He spent most of his playing career at probably the two most successful clubs in rugby league, and has been part of the backroom staff too. Hopefully he can draw on these and this can rub off on others. Could be part of a bigger plan. Looking forward
