How many of that team have gone on to successful top flight careers? You can only accuse a club of not hanging on to young players if they go on to better things elsewhere. It was also many moons ago, before the current ownership and Club 1873.

Trinity have over the last 20 or so years produced very few top grade SL players and only Ellis and Westwood spring to mind.
Other than that, they have produced stacks of Championship players.
Currently, we have more top quality youngsters Jowitt, Johnstone, Batchelor, Crowther plus a number of very promising players who have yet to break into the first team.
Annakin looks good right now and he's certainly worth hanging on to but, for all the lads like Kay and Walshaw, who the fans were desperate to keep, very few, if any, have proved the club to be wrong and gone on to flourish at another SL club.

Correct, it's a bit of a myth IMHO.

Having watched it again, a painful experience! I agree with you, claiming he was smashed was a bit harsh. However in reality no player can run as suicidely hard at far bigger players every game and have a long career.

I've seen smaller players do better than Anakin so perhaps there is something else missing that I'm not seeing. For me he needs to define his role and develop a technique if we are to get the best from him. I know Belly loves his all action style but he needs more than just a willingness to hurl himself at the opposition line to make it.

He could learn a lot from Hadley who is also what you would call a compact sized forward. For me there is so much more to his game than Anakin's IMHO. If he could start to develop along those lines then maybe you will be proved right.

Interestingly....there's only one Wigan player from that day still at Wigan and playing regular and that's Sam Powell.

I count at least 9 who played Super League. They are just not STILL playing super league.

I reckon Morton could have made something but he made some mistakes on live TV and others were coming through at the time.

Looking at that list it's turned out about right IMHO. It's subjective in some cases as some of those players never really got a chance but that happens at all clubs and in life in general.

Of those only two stand out as surprising. Walshaw and Slater were two who I thought might make it. Walshaw I think was ruined by Agar whilst if I recall correctly Slater decided to chance his hand in Australia?

Southernwood was the real talent but even then people knew he had a poor attitude. The rest are all pretty much where I'd have expected them to be based on what they have done since.

Many have been given the opportunity to play in Super League without really holding up.

Wildie had a decent run.

I thought the two centres Walshaw and Cowling looked promising. Cowling had a great game v Saints at home then suddenly went out of favour.
Morton never looked up to Super League standard. The ball steal in the Cas sudden death game really just was the last straw.
