Quote: wildshot "My concern with Newmarket is indeed the car parking and what I fear to be exorbitant cost. It will cost me enough coming from East Yorkshire for each home game (that I can make). With the price of petrol and entry an extra fiver/tenner to park is a real disincentive. Also with occasional matches on a Monday night or Friday night (for Sky) then time can be tight to get across from work.

Call me a cheapskate but I hate paying for parking, no matter where it is. We pay enough in car tax, VAT on buying a car then on petrol that exorbitant fees just discourage more.

I appreciate it is not great for people living nearby with cars parked during match day, but legally parked cars in reasonable areas can be worked out.

I also wonder how many away fans would be discouraged by parking fees.'"

Plenty of places to park if you don't mind a 5 minute walk, should be fine.

Well, I for one am pleased about that. Such things may seem minor but can be an issue. I think most people don't mind paying for parking if the fee is reasonable and this subject is my pet hate. (Bretton park for instance!) So, it's good to have a plan B.

Well I hope I'm right, it's fairly open up there. Obviously if we start to get 10,000+ gates it may get tighter.

There will be a lot of roads around the area as the whole estate gets built.
I'm ceratin a lot of the businesses there will charge a fee to park in their car parks but there'll be others too. Can see restrictions to Moorhouse being added though to stop people parking there.

Quote: snowie "from what I can remember there's only one pub at close walking distance

I'll find it easy via the motorway but will still be using the car unless transport is made easier then we could use it, as it is we would have to catch two buses now from wreny'"

It'd have thought it was just a case of getting down onto Stanley Road/Aberford Road and there should be a regular bus running straight along there through Stanley & past Moorhouse and then get off prior to Newmarket turn off for a short walk down to the ground?

Not many pubs nearby in Stanley as Railway Pub now shut and Thatched opposite St.Peters Church too far away. Always Rising Sun down bottomboat?

Lot's of opportunities for local companies/ hostelries to get in on the act if they use a bit of smarts, depending on the refreshment = beer facilities at the ground, my first option due to living town centre may be one of few beers in town centre then shared taxi to ground, keeping the cost reasonable.Would hope that maybe some taxi firm with a bit of nouse will see the potential market on match days both to and from Newmarket. I regularly travel to Fieldhead by taxi..no smart comments, its where I work !! lol, and costs around 4 quid with tip so would imagine should be around 5 and half to 6 quid for Newmarket which when shared is fine by me.ps would rather put money over a bar where the club benefits though if indeed that is a option.

Mexborough Arms 0.3 miles icon_cool.gif
but don't tell the locals as they'll object to anyone using their 'private' road (Newmarket Lane)

Thatched house to stadium exactly 1 mile, and on the main road from town
Rising Sun also 1 mile (although it's down a hill)

In Stanley village:
wheatsheaf 1.1 miles
Wagon & Horses 1.2 miles
Travellers 1.3 miles
bar stanley 1.5 miles

Don't know how we got to this from Salford's alleged financial difficulties, but...

Quote: bren2k "I'm ok with carparking charges - there are too many cars on the road as it is, so there should be a disincentive to use them; for those people who don't feel able to use an alternative, there should be a cost attached.Back to Salford - I don't think this is anything like a new rumour - it's been doing the rounds for ages and a lot of it was debunked by the club themselves and one of their well informed posters, both on the VT and their own board.

Personally, I hope it works out for them - I understand Sale Sharks are moving in soon, so that might help out with running costs and such. Either way, I'm guessing that our own situation will be somewhat different, given that NM will be run by a not-for-profit Trust.'"

One big problem old lad public transport in this country is a joke it does not work and it wont work without huge investment I live in Barnsley thats 2 bus rides or a bus and a train to Wakefield next for a bus to newmarket I would bet by the time i have finished it would be 5 hours round trip

Thats always been the thing with BV easy to get to bus or train and newmarket wont be.Think that Salford will be ok once sharks start using the ground and it reduces the rent.

Re pre match pint RE parking When the public enquiry was taking place there was a bloke that lives on newmarket lane who must have supported the stadium because he seemed to be there everyday. His name escapes me but I am sure he would be happy for trin supporters to park outside his house.

But you wouldn't have to worry about parking!

As I said - everything has a cost.
