| Interested and pleased to see Halpenny make it into the latter few teams. It was a big challenge for me choosing between him or Blaymire at FB. In the end I went for Blaymire with Halpenny on the bench, reflecting his versatility. Could have gone either way for me.

Halpenny isn't even in the top three fullbacks of the decade. Did a decent job out of position there but wasn't close to the three proper fullbacks.

Very good point for some reason I thought we'd binned him off for Prescott in 2000. Quality full back up there with Blaymire for sure.

| I would imagine looking at the stats Halpenny would come out on top, Holland was a great clubman but his game consisted of defence with no going forward game to speak of, Halpenny was a breath of fresh air.

At the time our full back needed to be rock solid in defence. Don't reckon Holland missed many one on ones and was faultless under the high ball.

| Very few and like he said his defensive game was spot on but a full back needs to be more than a ball catching brick wall in the modern game.

Answering your own questions - like it!
Have to say - I reckon he was best at FB and, whilst I do rate both Martyn Holland and Matty Blaymire, I was also very much a fan of Halpenny and was very disappointed that he didn't stay around longer.
FTR - I chose him as my player of the year in 2006 as I felt he was our most consistent performer during that period - and that tackle on Pat Richards was superb!

I have to say when Halpenny went to fullback i was dubious, but he brought an exciting attacking edge which we had lacked as well as being quite good defensively. I'd love to have seen him play another season maybe even two
