Quote: Theboyem "The club can't afford to be dividing fans by what in this case is poor management and handling of an issue and then sending poor Davide on here to cop the flack. '"

He's the general manager for heaven's sake, that's a senior position! He shouldn't have to come on here to cop the flack, he should have predicted it and either come up with a solution that tackled root cause or taken the communication with supporters more seriously.

Completely out of his depth I'm afraid.

I agree with most of that except the last one, the ques would be too long at half time, and the bar could close before all fans got a drink, but I think the staff should refuse fans drinks who are too drunk or getting too drunk..

Maybe spot searches for alcohol outside the ground would help as well. Happens at other clubs. Keep seeing glass beer bottles kicking around and i'm pretty sure the club doesn't sell them.

Quote: wildycat "See Newmarket is not going to change a thing some people are just hell bent on breaking the clubs wishes, yes people could do that at any ground in any sport, but you would thing people would be grown up and except a clubs wishes..
Wishes should not be mandatory. The ticket prices at Hull FC came under scrutiny last year as it was more expensive to sit in the end where away fans were encouraged to sit than the comparable seats at the other end, however it was clear that it wasn't mandatory for away fans to sit where they were encouraged to.

The West terrace has the worst approach to the turnstiles at the ground, and yet we expect away fans to know their way there.

A lot of what's being suggested is knee-jerk and over the top in my view; it's a classic case of using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

We have to accept that some form of segregation is inevitable; we're one of the last grounds to implement it and given the limitations of BV, I think it's been done in a way that most people can at least tolerate - this weekend's miscommunication aside, it doesn't seem to be causing too much unrest. It strikes me as the most pro-active way to minimise the likelihood of problems happening in the first place and from a regulatory perspective, is likely to pass muster as a 'reasonably practicable' step by the club.

With regard to the tiny minority of idiots who seem intent on misbehaving - I would tackle that by having significantly more stewards in place and by ensuring that those stewards are properly briefed before and after the match; ensure that they understand where their responsibilities begin and end and that they understand what powers they have i.e removal of individuals who are becoming drunk and/or lairy; detaining individuals who may have committed a criminal act whilst waiting for police to attend; confiscation of membership card or ST; taking a photo for identification purposes etc etc.

There will be an increased cost attached to that, but it seems like the approach that is likely to return the biggest bang for the buck i.e it targets the idiots whilst having little to no effect on the vast majority of people who are there to enjoy the game.

Change is a management problem and whilst it's a commonly held belief that people don't like change, I actually believe that people don't mind change at all, they just don't like being told to change by other people; this thread does nothing to persuade me that I'm wrong about that.

Quote: bren2k "Question - who is prepared to admit that they have witnessed people they know behaving in the way that has been described by Davide? i.e racist abuse or assaulting visiting spectators in/around the ground?'"

I have, it wasn't people who I know as 'friends' but people who I know from going to matches on the club buses and so on. It was at a Bradford match, racist, 'sterotypical' views of what Bradford is like as a city, and also at some of the Bradford players themselves, I reported it to the club, was called the next working day by Davide and he explained the actions the club were taking which I was more than satisfied with.

TBF all these cost money & without detracting from any problem we are supposed to be trying to make money in order to improve the clubs standing.

I don't have an issue with you as such, I don't like the way that you as general manager have imposed this change, the way you have failed to communicate it, and the fact that you have fronted up to fans in such a blunt manner on an internet message board. I think that all of the above is indicative that you're not up to the job as general manager. That is of course a subjective opinion and not based on any personal dealings with you whatsoever.

Another poster, Theboyem, referred to you as "poor Davide". In my opinion this speaks volumes about how you are regarded; a nice lad but not a general manager.

Quote: GIANT DAZ "FWIW i've always stood down the side when visiting Belle Vue and a year hasn't passed by yet without some Wakefield fans deciding to come and 'kick-off' with some of our lot, usually towards the end of the game and certainly by the exits and down the back streets.

We have complained to stewards, the only one we could ever find was by the exit gate on our way out, and when we told him what was going on was met by a shrug of the shoulders as our fans ( and indeed our town through not very pleasant racist language) were abused going out of the ground.

I would personally hate to see BV segregated as an away fan as we've always had some good banter with the Trin lot on the West terrace.'"

Well if you're half as obnoxious in person as you are on here it's hardly a surprise. If you live by the sword and all tha, now stop bandwagon jumping and grow a pair - you really are pathetic.

I have an issue with you now.
You have been advising what the club and its staff should be doing, yet here we have a clear act of racism and you have done nothing.
I think we have to be fair and say the club have not got this right and some work needs to be done but you just seem to be grinding the axe somewhat.
I'm all for open debate but I think you would be better off speaking to the club directly with your concerns.
Clearly everyone wants a stadium that works for the majority Davide has at least tried to come on and listen and act, but IMO that probably wasnt productive in hindsight.
I'm sure the club will listen to you if you are being fair.

Wow hold on there, think you are taking that out of context. I meant that as he was the poor sod who got sent on here to face the music, not anything to do with how well he does his job!

I didn't have to do anything, the Steward near me clearly heard the remark.

The reason I'm grinding the axe is because the best viewing place in the ground, where I have been standing for decades is now off limits to me.

I don't believe the club are interested in dialogue on this, they've made their decision - and didn't have the balls to tell us the reasons why. Choosing instead to communicate in private with people as to their supposed reasoning, and letting them do their bidding for them on here rather than having a proper communication strategy in place following a genuine consultation period. Furthermore they have completely refused to tackle root cause, and by segregation all they will do is push the idiots out of the way of the away fans, they'll still be there, but the complaints won't be and that's what is's about, they're not on a moral crusade.

The vociferous minority do not speak for the silent majority who I believe (my opinion) are happy with the segregation. I used to change ends at half time but the North Stand atmosphere (which has been sadly lacking for years) means I am more than happy to stay and enjoy the match from there.
