I believe this to be common knowledge so the only reason he wears the red, white and blue this season was because he accepted less not because he had to but because he wanted to stay despite interest from others.

I think you've misunderstood the rules.

There is a cut off date for those players not under contract where you need to tell them they are not being offered a contract or that they are still in negotiation but can talk to other clubs.
If we offered Batch a contract he must have been in the second group. If he wanted to test his value in the market he was allowed to do it but it doesn't mean we didn't want him.

That first line is absolutely untrue!
