This gives them a chance to look at players without signing them.

That's why Bastian was announced as coach, to build a team with players coming through, but the rfl moved the goalposts with regard to promotion relegation etc so he didn't have the time to do the job he was brought in for, hence why the board had to part with him. This year is an important year for championship teams with money available for the top teams.
