Quote: bren2k "WMDC have no intention or compulsion to build community facilities at Newmarket - they never did - and for anyone who was in doubt about that, the inimitable Mr Box has stated clearly in the media that it's nowt to do with him or WMDC and is entirely a matter between the club and the developer.'"

Yes he has, lots of times. But you can guarantee that if it ever does come off, that he'll be there claiming to have been responsible for delivering it.
TBH, I don't have much time for any politicians but he is the most self serving, arrogant to55er of the lot!

Really? I live in the suburbs of Wakefield, on the opposite side of Cas, but travel to Castleford for many facilities incl. sporting facilities. The council can't be centric in everything they do.

Awareness regarding all things Cas Stadia is not one of your strong points it would seem, the rebuilding or the not rebuilding of that princess St wall comes to mind icon_lol.gif

Good for you, do you want a medal?

I live at the other side of Horbury Bridge and if the WMDC can't provide sporting facilities closer than the other side of Castleford then they're incompetent and unfit for purpose.

Then I live very close to you, but I don't know why you're being unduly sarcastic with me? I'm just explaining that it depends on your experience.

Quote: Tigerade "Agreed - but if (and it's a big if) the proposed new stadium at Glasshoughton were to be given "community" status would WMDC try to get out of building community facilities at Newmarket by saying the 5 Towns Development is for the people of the Wakefield district ?'"

I would love to be a fly on the wall when that conversation is had with Jack Fulton & Steve Gill!

"Well Gents, you know that the plan was that we get you a stadium built and then we get the developer to hand over the freehold of the stadium to your private limited company giving you a £13m asset... well, the plans changed guys! Instead, we need you to set up a Trust company limited by guarantee and then the freehold will be given in Trust to the community instead. We want Wakefield Trinity to play there too, so this need to be done to allow revenue to be shared equally via stadium management company owned by the Trust, or this plan does not work! Ok, you two happy with the new plan?"

That conversation will never happen of course, but if it did, what do you think they would say?

Something to do with the tone of your previous post.

Do you really think that an area the size of Wakefield District can be adequately served by Community Spots facilities that sit right over on the East side of the region?

If I wanted to go skiing that's different but not for normal sports provision!

I never said it could be adequately served, I just said that I was the antithesis to your point. Wakefield needs a community sports facility, I have never said otherwise.

Quote: The Avenger "They can pretend all they want but I live in Wakefield and it'd be a 36 mile round trip for me to get to the proposed site of the "community" facilities which actually isn't local to me or my community!'"

Whilst what you say is correct if you live the other side of Horbury Bridge then its heading towards a 30 mile round trip to Newmarket as well so that wouldn't be local either. I would have the same issue living in ossett, the location of either is not imho a 'community stadium for Wakefield'. For that to be the case it would need to be in a more central position but that isn't possible.

If the Cas stadium is also to be used by other junior clubs, schools and residents, which i believe is the plan, then i have no issue with it being deemed a community stadium as it will be serving the local people. Yes there is the ownership difference but then Cas will have to fund the upkeep of the stadium in the same way a trust owned stadium would. If either could make a profit out of it, so what, surely that just means it is being used more often by people it should be?

19 miles
Personally I'm not keen on Newmarket as a location either but at least it's closer

Closer yes but i still wouldn't class it as local! Fwiw i have said all along that there wouldn't be two stadiums built in such a close proximity and right now it looks like the only one built will be the Cas one. In an ideal world the community stadium would have been the Thornes Park project, sadly we don't live in an ideal world. What the answer is if Newmarket doesn't come to being i don't know.

Love to read forums. Everyone has the right to a opinion and i understand how this whole stadium issue has dissapointed both sets of fans have been over the years.
Debting the location now? I just wander how many from wakefield travel to xcape ? Whatever happens it must be a better location than Salford. If you think about some other grounds, a community stadium at Glasshoughton is not that bad.

I live in Normy and maybe go under duress once a year, a more soulless place you'll never find, the bars feel like someone's built an aircraft hanger and decided to cordon areas off and call them bars, horrible place.
