| Don't think anyone has seen enough of Tongia to judge him against Mathers. Tongia may have not made it in the NRL but to play at that level as well as being good you are up against loads more competition for places. The NRL are always going to have to cut players more than us and Tongia should not be judged as an NRL reject. Some people will probably think i am selling superleague short but i am not they have a similar amount of teams as us but percentage of quality of players is far greater. With what i have seen he needs a fair go.

Well you have made the point for me with he huge contradiction in your post.
I too have only seen him play 4 times which is why I will hold my judgement on Tongia. I have seen Mathers play many many times and know him well as a player.
It's not me who's being presumptive or trying to tell the future, it's you. I like Tongia he looks a potentially good player but he isn't one yet is he.
I'll stick to my belief, yep that's my belief that they are similar players in terms of style from what I have seen - which I accept isn't much - but then I'm not the one getting giddy.
Thanks

The contradiction in your post is your holding judgement on Tongia when earlier you said they are similar players. Make your mind up fella. You got those lotto numbers yet ?

| Agree about the Tongia hype, it's no good being brilliant in broken play whilst looking suspect in your ability to hold onto the ball. Mathers' problem is he is too inconsistent but then again if he wasn't he might not have been shipped around so much. To be honest I couldn't give a real rats arrse about either, Tongia at least has age on his side and with a bit of coaching who knows.

I'd love to have signed tongia but lets be realistic if he was going to sign i would have thought the deal would be done by now. He cant have had any visa issues otherwise he wouldnt have got here in the first place.
Just hope we can get a decent half back and the completion of Sam Obst signing within the next week.
A prop and the squad looks pretty damm good, maybe even give korki pay as you play deal aswell for depth of squad

I have to say Vasty, I love you and all, but that's just simply not true.
Sometimes you're a typical anti-Wakey fan fan, and will manufacture reasons to label the rest of us fickle, dim or lacking rugby knowledge at the drop of a hat.
The reason I'm enthusiastic about Tongia is that he's young, looks an exciting talent and we've already invested a significant amount in scouting him, flying him halfway round the world and completing all the attendant admin to get him working in this country. It would be a shame for another cub to reap the benefit of all that.

| We're supposed to be developing as a club. Does that not include developing players? Tongia looks like he has the potential to be a good one. We've gone to the trouble of getting him over so why not give him a chance?
I don't think we can really judge him until he's had at least half a season under his belt.

Vasty forgets his illustrious past, and now sees it as his solum duty to poo poo, any inkling of positivity from any poster, with his "unique" anti Wakefield rationale.
Unfortunately he thinks he is the cool kid at school with his "anti" stance on everything, what a shame its all been done before, and he wasn't anywhere to be seen, quite the opposite in fact.
Everyones got a right to a point of view, even vasty, but usually, if you dont want to go to the party you have the dignity to stay at home and sulk, rather than shout over the wall and ridicule the presents.
Vasty the renegade, nah!! Vasty the Cas fan!!!

I'm a bit bemused TBH that comparing the two players as having a similar playing style has escalated to such a serious level
Just shows how important I am to this forum, and to think you nearly lost me

Does Glover operate you by strings or is it by remote control. It is possible to support the club and support those in charge without turning it into a kinleycat love fest. There are good and bad things happening at the club and players will always be a much debated and opinions will differ - live with ffs.
Comparing Tongia to Mathers is hardly a crime. Take a week off and have a holiday in Blackpool or Glover's Conservatory or wherever fanatics have a rest, have a drink, kick the dog but give the towing the company line thing a rest.

| i agree with vastman's wider point. there were some that backed ted right up to the end. who were they again?
personally i am broadly pleased with glover, although not over the moon about agar's appointment, or the influence that james elston has.
