It’s you that misses the point. There is plenty of money, but most of it has been sequestered away and is not circulating in the wider economy. While Branson, Apple etc. sit on mountains of equity the consequence for the rest of us is that the economy is running on one cylinder out of four, and that one is struggling. The Newmarket fiasco reflects that situation - the site is worth millions but rather than pay for a community stadium (i.e. a tax on the value) the owner sits on the equity waiting to maximise earnings.

| Thing is it isn't us the taxpayer who determine the rate of tax, so we cannot be blamed for not paying more tax, I would also point out us on PAYE have no say in weather we pay or not it's taken off us before we see our net pay 20% then we pay another 22% vat on just about everything we buy, so no I don't feel guilty at all about the amount of tax I pay.

| But back on topics belle Vue / Newmarket stagecoach took over the east coast franchise promising the government i.e tax payer £3.3 million. They have now backed out after making money over a number of years and the tax payer stands to get nothing _ sounds familiar.

You can't have one rule for the rich and one for the poor - ditto - the other way around.
If we all followed the rules rich and poor life would be great but we don't we seem to pick and chose.
As a matter of interest steady if I were to come around and shoot your dog for a laugh would that be ok as I've only done it once? Bit extreme I know but it seems you have to be these days to get the most obvious point across.
Merry xmas hope you enjoyed your snide DVD
Follow the rules you say, but who makes the rules? Are the rules set in stone or can they be manipulated? Are the rules fair? Do they favour one group over another? The list goes on & on.
Fortunately I have no dog, but I do have a guinea pig I would be glad to see the back of! Anyway, I digress; I think you're oversimplifying to be honest. If you did kill my dog, even once, I'd expect you to be dealt with by the law in a timely & justified manner & I trust that you would be, but here lies the trouble. If you or I gambled our employers money away we'd be dealt with for fraud, but that's not the way that bankers were treated. Similarly; if you or I lied about our expenses, then we'd expect to be dealt with by the law, but that didn't happen with politicians. Again, the list goes on. So I can't take your point about following the rules; only those who have no say/money/power follow the rules; as for the other folk, the rules are optional & subjective.
Oh & I should have said kodi; DVD's are so 90's!
Happy new year (think it'll be a memorable one for you - 3rd is my tip)!

| just to rub salt in the wound, the new Wakefield Divisional Police HQ at Normanton and the new police station at Elland Road in Leeds were also built under PFI. Makes you sick doesn't it?

Indeed, the 'fairness' of the tax system will always be up for debate. I just filled in my tax return online and there are some bizarre loopholes there if you know how to use them.
Bottom line: the UK has enough money to properly fund the NHS, it just chooses not to.

Well, what should happen in a fair and just society (some would call this a socialist society), the government would pay for it from it's incomes.
Its incomes are taxes - we'd all be happy to pay more taxes, as long as there was a tangible benefit, wouldn't we? (apart from people who say stuff like "why should my taxes go up, when I don't even use the trains/roads/hospital/Community Stadium?).
Nailing down the tax avoiding conglomerates would be another step in the right direction.
If the Govt couldn't raise more taxes (too unpopular with the electorate), it then needs to cut expenditure - popular term = austerity.
I think the households of Wakefield should pay an extra £50 in council tax for 1 year - this would more than pay for a stadium and /or a big free car park for nurses.

| Sorry I'm of the opinion that I pay enough tax on my income and council . If a new stadium requires me to pay 50 quid a year more in council tax then I'm afraid its a no from me.

And there we have it.
An example or extension of people who feel we are entitled to something for free...like a National Health Service. Spoiler alert: nothing is free, including the NHS - we all pay for it (apart from health tourists, who some feel shouldn't be chased for the cost of their care).
If the people of Wakefield won't pay for their Community Stadium, maybe we could get a developer to it for us? I'm sure they wouldn't do it for free, but if we perhaps engineered a situation that allowed them to make enough profit for developing a space (perhaps a brown/green field site), then I'm sure it would happen.
Oh, hang on...

| £10 would probably do it and as an income percentage it would be small number.
But it would be very hard to convince people about it. Me included and I want a stadium.
If you made the council income public and then listed clearly all the things they have to spend money on.....the stadium would be a long way down the list I'm sure.
Of course a good council should be able to deliver on more than one thing rather than just having gold plated roads because roads were top....but I fear we don't have that council.

| I think I pay enough taxes and am one of those who (fortunately I suppose) get minimum benefit when the Government or Council spend it. I would gladly put a substantial sum into a community stadium project for the benefit of Trinity though.
