Quote: isaac1 "There are lots of emotional people on here. that is what makes our great game what it is. As a Bradford fan, looking on most boards has led me to shake my head at what many people have said, including some fellow Bradford fans. MOst fans put their club first, before the welfare of the whole league or sport, and we are mostly biased in some way, myself included.

I cannot see how Odsal, and the BUlls status in it is legally more secure this week than it was last. I dont have enough detailed information to make an informed judgement. I understand fully how fans of other SL clubs feel aggreived, especially those struggling to comply with stadia not up to "Superleague standard" and those who have struggled to attain that status.

I miss grounds like Wilderspool, Central park and Knowsly Road. I will miss Belle Vue and Wheldon Road. They all have/had things that were annoying/poor/appalling, but they had a real sense of what Rugby League was about; community, history etc... I would love to see a day where relegation and promotion is more about what happens on the pitch, and less about the buildings around it. I agree that finances shouls be a factor, as we dont want clubs going to the wall, or getting in huge debt to win the odd trophy, but why the ground criteria? if it conforms to health and safety regs, then it is good enough!

The purchase of the lease of Odsal strengthens one club over others. That is not fair. simple as. Even though its my club, its still wrong! The RFL should be looking to develop the whole game from the ground up. They would argue that by securing Bradford's future they are doing just that!

I would love to have more information about the numbers/terms etc... because this just looks like a short term cashflow, wonga style deal!'"

Hi Isaac. I got far too carried away about this yesterday, but it seems I was not alone, in view of the 22 pages on this post in a day.
I like your post. It summarises how I feel and how most fair minded fans feel at all clubs. This reaction is not just about this deal, it's about seething resentment that is felt not only by Wakefield supporters, but, quite rightly, by the fans of many other clubs too, over many issues. The rfl appears to behave in a very arrogant and inflexible way, convinced of the correctness of their grand plan, quoting this and that stat but totally ignoring the traditions of our game, the simple justice and fairness that sport should represent and the feelings of the majority of it's paying customers. Chickens will come home to roost sooner or later

If you should find that, a few years down the road, we were to have a RFL national stadium and headquarters at Odsal, similar model to the RFU and Twickers (although perhaps not quite on that scale), and on a site that the RFL had acquired for a fraction of what a newbuild freehold site would cost (for which thank Bradford council for the original peppercorn lease), would you still be of the same view? Or would you feel they had done something right for the game for once?

Just wondering, since your expressed feelings in that post (regardless of any previous) seem a lot more objective and less "its a surreptitious bailout" than those of many other contributors.

ok then why odsal its just waiting to used as a land fill site, the ground is in dire need of a massive upgrade that would cost millions so why not use the shuddersfield the birth place of rugby league icon_rolleyes.gif

Come on Adey, this is the same Odsal that has proved too expensive to develop for 30 years or more and suddenly the RFL are going to find the money to do it? Surely not even you actually believe that do you. Although they must have plenty of spare cash to be able to give the naming rights to the competition away when they have previously received in the region of £1million for it so maybe you're right.

Which English rugby union league club plays at Twickenham?

If it were a neutral venue, I might just agree with you, but you can't marry this with the concept of frannchising and the criteria laid down for other clubs re. stadia and expect wedded bliss.

I'm afraid if you believe that you'll believe anything.

When Bradford Council gave you a lease for 150 years at a peppercorn rent I would have thought it would be filled with conditions and covenants to protect the good ratepayers of Bradford being sold down the river by virtue of somone developing the site and making money - surely there would be some clawback clauses and if there aren't then whoever drew up the lease for the Council wants shooting.

There is no way that we will have a National RL Stadium at Odsal and quite frankly the game does not need a National Stadium.

It is a wast of time going over and over same things the RFL as done it, all I can say is every fan will be looking at Bradford and any odd goings on and off the field, I feel that the RFL and some one at the Bulls as been scratching each others back and we will see in time how far it as gone, I think the RFL should keep it's HQ in Huddersfield..

This.

If there were a vote of confidence in the Board of the RFL next week, I'm wiling to bet they would lose it by an overwhelming majority.

Unfortunately, their overweening arrogance and habit of treating the fans of the sport with utter contempt is bolstered by a) a total lack of accountability and b) the complacency of many RL fans, who seem happy to accept their mishandling of the game without so much as a murmur of dissent. It could be argued that they've just strengthened that position even more - next time they go to SL Chairmen for a vote on an issue, who can see the RFL Bulls voting against them?

Does not actually answer my question, does it?

Bradford Council have given the transfer their blessing. Maybe because there is no suggestion of someone developing the site and making money? Other than development of RL facilities? In any case, maybe there are some new clauses in the new lease to the RFL?

You seem very certain about the future. I wish I could be so certain.

There is clearly no way a stand-alone RL stadium could be either justified or viable - no-one would dispute that. One that had dual club/RFL use would be another matter?

I'm certainly not certain about the future but I'm certain that the RFL did not buy the lease on Odsal from you for any other reason but to bail you out of the financial clag and enable you to pay outstanding bills which otherwise you would have been unable to do so. I'm certain that they will not develop a National Rugby League Stadium at Odsal where the Bulls will play and we will play all semi-finals, Grand Finals, Challenge Cup Finals etc.

If they do then I will put on the oven, cook it and eat a giant slice of Humble Pie and say "Do you know, that AdeyBull was right all the time and don't we all look fools now" - but I think there is more chance of me meeting Cameron Diaz in the Redoubt for a drink tonight than than happening.

I'm sorry but I'm just not buying it.
