| Quote: Prince Buster "I agree East should be first.
However I also think the West Terrace should be next. The North stand is more acceptable in that it is part covered and the terrace is at least steep enough to see the game. The West terrace is an absolute joke and whoever designed the terracing needs locking up.
I also think we should be more welcoming to away supporters. They benefit us greatly on a financial basis if we can increase their numbers. I am surprised they even bother to turn up at the moment the way they are treated when they arrive. Further to that I do not want us to act like Leeds. They have a fantastic ground on all three sides but their attitude is, Give the crap uncovered end to the away lot we don't give a toss about them.'"
We always used to stand on the Western terrace by choice and although the terracing is a little low, the condition of the terracing is significantly better than the North Stand.
I take your point about wanting to encourage away fans and that an increase in their numbers helps the club coffers.
However, if/when the facilities improve for the home fans, do you not think that this number will increase and they will turn up every week and not just once a season.
There are a number of grounds where the away fans are catered for equally but, there are enough, where we are second class citizens and often charged a premium for that treatment.
Lets look after no 1 first of all and then worry about the away fans.
In an ideal world, we would have a great view and comfort for all that wish to come along but, right now, it has to be about where the club can maximise the return on their investment and if we were to give the away fans the 5* treatment, while leaving our own fans on crumbling concrete, what kind of message does that send to the loyal home fans.

From what I understand the West terrace was never originally a terrace, it was part of the Velodrome track that once ringed BV, ditto the East stand, which is why both the East stand and the old West stand were more or less pitch height. The terrace came later and rather and due to the height of the stands couldn't be elevated. It's this that tends to make BV look more uneven than it actually is. If you go on the Trinity heritage site there is actually a photo of BV as a Velodrome or at least I think there is, HTH

I remember the Western side very well. When I first started watching the game in the 60's I used to stand at that side. The main stand was there and infront was the paddock and it used to cost 6d to transfer into it. I along with a lot of other young kids used to congregate in there. Many were only small but the viewing was good and the terracing was far more elevated than now. The old cycle track had nothing to do with it,it was long gone by then. It was the idiot who redesigned it that was the problem. If you go down to the old clown corner the terrace levels there are completely different and they are more or less what the whole length of the terrace used to be like. I also seem to remember that the crap redesign work was done when the ground was owned by WMDC and that probably explains it.

| I agree that the East stand need sorting 1st. It is the side that most people first see the ground, people do go with first impressions. Wasnt it the Fev Chairman/CEO who said he was embarrassed everytime he passed?

Not sure I agree there PB but you may be right, I'm certainly not old enough to remember the track, how old are you a hundred

Yes they did race around it, there’s a few old pictures knocking around showing a race in progress. The old west stand, wow, all ways brings back the smell of ralgex when I passed through on my way to the south stand. Oh to be young again

Used to walk through there as a child with my dad. Always full of older men drinking, the smell of cigars and pipes.

Yeah, true BLM, and paddling through the puddles of spilt ale on the floor of the old west stand bar.

And the long lost smell of Wintergreen, something I’ll never forget. That’s when the changing rooms where there before the bar

| when I was their mid week a few weeks back the worker I spoke to was doing the surveying on the flats (south) end of the ground if that means anything
but you would think they wouldn't get rid of the corporates first .
but he 100% told me he was working on the first stage of the re development

| I’m sure whichever side gets built first it will be a massive improvement on what we’ve got and will be the first piece of the jigsaw in bringing our iconic ground up to date and fit for purpose .
