| Quote: jonh "Agreed. I think Wire are a year or 2 ahead of Trinity, but the fact that Trinity now seem able to compete for the top players like Tronc only shows that the gaps are closing in this respect.
Really personally looking forward to the game on Saturday obviously, I am hoping for a Wigan win, but i think it will be our first major test of how far we have come under Maguire. I cannot think of any time under Noble after the relegation fight that we put 3 good performances together in a row.
Should be a cracker for 2 teams looking to break up the Saints/Leeds dominance at the top of the table.'"
Agree with everything you say except the first bit, the general opinion was Wire were a year or two in front of us last year. We hammered them home and away in the league and finished well above them. With the signings they have made they might have caught us up a little but 2 year ahead not imo, time will tell though.

| Wigan played poor and won tough, sign of a good team, really confident for the rest of the year after that.

| It reminded me of games from day's gone by.A great physical game with some superb attacking play. Just missing the competative scrums and no substitutions. What say you Jonh !!!!!

Looking emotively i thought Wire should have smashed Wigan and i am sure the stats will back that up, felt there attack was very blunt and they dominated field position and possession and should have put Wigan to the sword very early on in the piece.
Wigan with loose carries and bad discipline were there own worst enemy, and it was without doubt the worst performance they have produced thus far.
While an exciting game performance wise i thought it was far from a classic, but we played poorly and won and i have more confidence in the team now than i have for some time, its the sign of a good team having the ability to win a game despite not performing as a team.

| Was a good old scrap. The only thing that makes me think that Wigan may not go all the way is that they are playing with so much intensity. I know that was missing under Noble, but intensity is hard to maintain. Teams like Saints and Leeds can put together wins, even in close games, with patience and skill. I just think Wigan will hit a mid-season blip that may make the trip to Old Trafford too tough an ask. Warrington will have their best ever season, but like Wigan, they might just give themselves too much to do.
Hope I'm wrong. Haven't missed a Grand Final yet, one of the best boozy days of the year, and Wigan or Warrington there would make it so much more interesting.

Think your being a bit tough on your lads there. Didn't think you got the rub of the green with some decisions in the first half that broke up any chance of you getting any rhythm. The Wires field position and tries came off the back of those decisions.
Second half you got a fair shout and blew them away 18-4, plus it should have been more.
I like the style of game Wigan are playing this year and with a fit O'Loughlin you have in my mind the best leader on the park bar non.

I agree. Wigan didn't always help themselves in the first half, but Wire rode their luck and had the better of the 50/50s.
It is very on, and I think as with most sides, the loss of key players wcould be influential. To look at it another way, I'd rather Wakey play Warrington at the moment than Wigan. Warrington at their best can cleary play devastating rugby, but Sky overhyped them last week when both them and Cas looked vulnerable. Wigan look stronger as an all round unit.
Maybe that means Warrington have more room to improve. Hopefully it means for a competitive season, and, the more teams in with a shout, it might be take the media spotlight away from Wakey as we go through the season unbeaten, he he.

So you agree that the Brian Noble influence is now beginning to show dividends

I think Wire employed a good tactic of almost legally stripping the ball, they were attacking it at every opportunity in the tackle, they got away with it all night and it took Wigan far too long to get wise to it, hence our shocking ball retention, not sure of completed sets in that first half but i am sure they will back up my thoughts. Second half again for much of it we were on the back foot, but we had the individual brilliance to pull us out of the poop and get us on a roll.
Dont get me wrong we did a lot right last night to even stay in the game, but for much of it we were architects in our own downfall, and Wire also contributed to this.
Either way i am happy that we managed to beat a good team without hitting the straps, sign of a good side and no way would we have won that game at any point in the last 4 years.
