Quote: bren2k "So the estimated economic and cultural benefits of The Hepworth are all stuff and nonsense; whereas Mr Carter's assumptions that WMDC obtaining a loan of c£10 million makes sound financial sense and is cast iron and guaranteed - even with your wildly optimistic assumption about an average attendance of 8k, which I don't think has ever been achieved in the SL era?

I want a stadium as much as you - but the case must be made on its own merit - not at the expense of something that is already built and, outside of a small group of curmudgeonly charlatans, is widely perceived as adding value to the district.'"

The case was made in a Public Inquiry where a Developer in return for a Planning Consent and a £2m contribution that was promised from the Council promised to build a 12,000 capacity Stadium.

We are asking that the Council borrows the money and builds the stadium. Michael has agreed to cover the interest on the loan until its repaid by the Developers of Newmarket & Belle Vue through Section 106 Agrements and CIL payments without costing the Council a penny.

So all the social and economic benefits that a new stadium will bring which was acknowledged by Andy Wallhead of the Council on Radio Leeds on Monday can be achieved at no cost to the Council.

Looks a good deal to me.

It is a good deal, but you can't ignore the implications for WDC.
For them to go with it, they'd need to be confident of a result from pursuing YC.
You might say, not our problem, but in reality it is.

But what some people don't seem to understand is, that the club would be paying interest on the loan so if the loan doesn't get paid back the club will still pay the interest on the loan. It's costing the Council nothing and in future will cost the council nothing

Have they given a definitive answer to MC's proposal yet? Or have they even discussed it with yourselves?

Sandal cat, do you really think the council are gonna borrow £12M based on the fact that the club are gonna pay the interest and more importantly the council will chase the developers of Newmarket (Yorkcourt) and the developers of BV (88M) for the full cost, I'm sorry here but that really isn't feasible, in fact it's plain embarrassing to expect it. Please feel free to fill me in on why they should/could because I just don't see it.

And if the club got relegated and lost the major source if its income could it still sevice those payments which if the developer doesn't pay up, and the likelihood is the won't, would be due forever going by your plan?

Quote: chissitt "First of all I know full well that the stadium would be owned by the council and not Wakefield Trinity, it seems to me that the point you are trying to put across is that if they can build a new swimming pool in the city then why can't they build a new stadium, I don't know the answer to that and like you and so many other Wakey fans I wish it would become a reality, unfortunately atm it's not happening, the thing I'm trying unsuccessfully is pointing out to you that imo using the swimming pool as a stick to beat the council with is not the way to go and may alienate any support you might have from the none rugby people of Wakefield and it's districts.

It looks like my poor attempt at sarcasm went straight over your head with my reference to Cas council, I know full well that Castleford don't have a council, and let me just say that firstly that I don't disagree with what you are saying as it doesn't affect me but you do seem to come across as slightly bitter yourself by make references to everything the council are promoting in the Cas area'"

Fair enough chissitt: sorry your brand of sarcasm did fly over my head. Let's call a truce! I'll just say that I wasn't using the swimming pool as a stick to beat the council with. What I was trying to put across is that whilst we cater for swimmers, golfers, athletics out of public funds why is the stadium for rugby league and other activities not a possibility?
I personally have not, and possibly never will, visit the Hepworth, but I don't begrudge other people the pleasure of doing so. it has put Wakefield on the map to a degree.

We are most likely to get relegated without the stadium

There's no need to call a truce mate your pushing against an open door, I'm 100% behind what you say, we just appear to differ slightly on our train of thought on the wording, it's 45 years since I got married and moved to the Barnsley area but I still want the best for the city.

Quote: Egg Banjo "I'm not sure how you can consider the Hepworth an unqualified success, it cost the council over £18m to build and currently costs the council £1.25m/annum to operate. The gallery attracted 210,000 visitors in 2016 and all of them got in for free. That means that each visitor cost the Wakefield tax payer around £6 for them to visit. The most successful thing it has managed to achieve is winning a £100,000 prize, this hardly touches the sides of the running costs.

I'm sure if the council were to build a stadium for £18m and then give the club £1.25m per year in place of entry fees, we'd see figures surpass the attendance fiigures for the gallery'"

Put our stadium issues as peanuts then

To answer your question then NO.

Maybe because they know that Yorkcourt have no intention of building/funding a stadium and equally the Council have no intention of making them comply with the planning consent (i.e. Newcold) so they already know the consequences of borrowing the money.

If they had any intention of seeing a stadium built and felt that Yorkcourt would fulfill the promise they made at the PI then Michael's offer is a good one.
