| Quote: Pound 4 Wrighty "Long and short was that he wasn't used to working under the restrictions that coaching a club like Wakey brings with it. Nothing he requested was turned down, but some things that he would probably class as standard procedure maybe aren't at Wakey.
He was aware prior to taking on the job for the year, but i personally think he has now realised that at 60+ he probably hasn't got it in him anymore.
The big one now is who replaces him. The club have to get this right.
Has to be someone who commands the respect straight away, can get the best and more out of some average players and can sort our defence quickly. We cant expect to concede 30+ points per game and win matches.
John Kear or Glen Morrison for me. Outside of that, i would look at a total outsider, possibly Monaghan at Catalans (could bring his boots!!) who i think was quite close to getting it last time.
Chester for me would be almost like a Webster. I want someone who i know will give it to people when they aren't performing. We have no leaders on the park, so we need someone in charge who is maybe a bit more in your face and vocal and i just think Chris may be too nice for that.'"
My understanding is you are right about Monaghan, so must be a strong favourite.
I also agree about Chester and I believe is a friend of MC's so I don't see that working.
Personally I like John Kear, and would make a good director of Rugby, think he is a good fit with our club and it's the sort of situation he loves, (backs to the wall and all that).
Ideally with someone like Morrison as head coach, but that won't happen
So for me JK.

| I'm presuming he means that we won't speculate to accumulate, that we have a very conservative outlook. Given our history, that is no bad thing. He may have been at the helm at the birth of Bullmania, and they had some great years, but I seem to recall that one of their problems turned out to be that they spent all they accumulated from the speculation on further speculation (i.e., the money from the crowds attracted from the pre-match stuff was blown on further pre-match stuff).
We have two options for the future: gamble on success or live within our means. If that means cutting costs to the bone so we can spend a little more on players, then fine. We are not a club like Warrington who had good crowds when they were as rubbish as we were. I think the potential is in Wakey, but decades of disappointment is stopping them coming through the turnstiles.
If Yorkcourt buy Super Bowl and use Belle Vue to provide the community facilities then there is a future that is brighter. Low rent, a secure home in better facilities.

| He was also talking about basics like putting the heating on in the dressing rooms for the players.
I'd say it is as much about prioritising the cash as it is how much you give overall.

| It all reads that he couldn't cope with the reality of being at Wakefield.
When he came in last season, there was no time to plan anything, it was all about staying in SL.
Perhaps he thought we were better off (financially) than we were ?
A top coach will always try and put in a decent infrastructure and create the right environment for players to improve and nobody could blame him for this and although "no heating in the changing rooms" is not the b-all to everything, it is of course a symptom of the situation that he joined.
The most worrying comment is the reacting before it's too late which, although cryptic, is a very loaded comment.
All this certainly points to us needing a coach who is used to a tight budget, rather than someone who has been at a top club.

We have two options for the future
It’s a difficult situation. You have to balance the books but that can mean the club just carries on as it is. That means you may lose your decent players as they decide they have a better chance of success elsewhere. That can then impact on attendances and income meaning you have to make more savings. In the end it becomes a downward spiral.
Now we have the threat of P&R the temptation to spend is greater than ever.

| Pretty obvious to many in a similar position
Knocking on a bit, works for the fun of it and that extra bit of cash that allows a frivolous lifestyle. When it gets hard or no longer enjoyable it's time to call it a day and wind down towards death.

| I think he probably spoke to his brother about the situation and that could have pathetic the way for a call from another club. I don't see that as unprofessional but simply talking to a member of his family. M C said he couldn't recollect saying no to B S about anything that could have been a well prepared reaction. To work from December in a frosty environment would probably lead to a blow out and boy did we get one. I'm sure the club can learn from the recent goings on and I would hope that the next no brained appointment turns out to be just that.
I have no idea who es leading the field but whoever gets the job will need to have his eyes wide open and a large amount of stamina , thick skin, be single minded, and a vast amount of experience. Fledglings will find the going extremely difficult.
Balancing the books will prove the biggest challenge YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE AND OCCASIONALLY HAVE A PUNT.

| I really don't know what BS means by his last comment but I would like to add that the 'REAL' WTW believers are the silly buggers that pay good money year in year out to watch the team that means something to them; not necessarily those huddled in a bar somewhere talking a good game!
I was originally gutted that BS has gone but on reflection I think the way he left was disrespectful to the club, paying him good money and real fans - those on the terraces.

I think you're reading a bit too much into his comments to be honest.
I'm gutted he's gone but he's not disrespected anyone as far as I can see, MC perhaps by the way he resigned but they weren't getting on so hey ho, thats life.
Glad that we've had him at the club, don't think we'd of got the likes of Tupou etc without him, but its absolutely vital that we get this next appointment right. I'm hoping that with BS being the highest paid coach we've ever had, we should have room in the budget to get a quality replacement. Its the one area that MC can't go for the cheap option with, but again, think he knows this already.
Really hope its Morrison or Rowley. Fond memories of Kear and what he did for the club but we shouldn't go back, besides there's no guarantee a man of his years would leave Batley where he is in his element battling against the odds against bigger clubs, but without all the pressure of the WTW gig.

This.
As I've said previously I'm very ********** angry and feel very let down! I bought into the BS (very apt initials) gag, I thought we had a guy with staying power and passion, but sadly not, it might be that I sit back and reflect and have a bit of sympathy for Brian, but at this moment in time it's not happening

| Smiths statement, if anything, has left me even more angry. If he wasn't up for the fight (which is what his statement suggests) why did he bother
Also some of the wording of that statement is quite vague and can be left open to interpretation, which doesn't help us at all.

| But he said he probably wasn't going to go beyond last year and was convinced to stay.
If he feels he isn't getting what was discussed as the thing to make him stay then I can see his frustration.
On top of that he 'implies' that it isn't doing his health any good so I feel for the guy and although I'm really disappointed, he has my respect and a merry bon voyage from me.

| After the Hull KR game BS posted a message on facebook or twitter thanking the fans for their support. If I remember correctly he also asked if anybody had ideas on how to grow the club/take it forward. it seems to me he wan't happy with the finances provided, not for the players but for the things that need to go on in the background for a club to grow and succeed. There is very little engagement with the fans from the club and this is an area which should be improved. You never know there may be people out there who could help but don't believe they would be listened to.
