| Quote: financialtimes "Shaw cross weren't the better "Rugby" side, however they did at times play some good rugby with some very good running off the ball but 2 tries came off basic errors by Crigg.
Defensively Shaw Cross were a million miles away from crigg and with only 2 or 3 players actually turning up they still managed to score 7 tries.
Crigg always seem to be able to lift their game when it's really needed and they have 5 or 6 players capable of changing a game against any opposition, East Leeds will be the ones that will need to lift their game IMO as the last 4 times Crigg have played them they have scored over 130 points with East Leeds only managing to a total of 20,
Hopefully the final will be a closer affair
Didn't go to the last East Leeds game but I was surprised buy the final score.
Some teams do moan on I think about having small squads I think last week the Shaw cross jinx was close by and this is like the old heworth one in this age group whereby having no sub's to worry about benefits the team.

Shaw Cross came with 15 players, Crigg only had 16 on Saturday, missing 5 players, 4 of which would normally be in the starting line up

| Panthers 13s made the short journey to lock lane looking to put a poor show behind them.
In a typical derby their was plenty of guts and determination on show has the game finished with a fair 22-22 scoreline, both sides will feel they could have won the game and I'm not sure a point suits either side.

| Rules confirmed by Yorkshire JARL on Twitter, basically all errors result in a handover from under 8's and above - but obviously discretion is to be used by coaches/referees to ensure the kids enjoy the experience.
When they say 'at the youngest age group' it means under 7's rather than under 7's to 9's (Primary RL).

| Don't know if you wanna laugh or cry brayton but surly a derby point at lane is a gain
Although I don't know how it paned out.
Heard that the rest of the district schools are getting together to give C as High year 8
a match as once again they are unbeaten. I'm guessing Wilfred's (I think ) , outwood ,
Cathy high , horby , eastmoor will provide a lot .
A couple from kettlethorpe have pulled out due to other commitments on training day\night
being invited to the schools awards and achievement night do. And I also think the rugby coach
as talked them out of it saying they have nothing to prove.
Be interesting however but I think even with a super team maybe the case high lads knowledge
Of each other will win the day.
Good luck in the rest of ur games apart from 1 rob

Not sure that game is taking place or not has it was originally going to be played because no other school would play them in the Wakefield schools final but minsthorpe have now said they will play them Tuesday.
Lock lane really could have gone either way and it was everything a derby should be and taking 3 points from them is a decent return.
Today saw a very depleted panthers 13s travel to Milford for their second game in 3 days, early on Milford stuck it to us but has the game went on we got on top for a well deserved 8-22 win despite the ref trying is best for the home team.
I'm not normally one to sing the praises of my own lad but today he was simply outstanding has was many of the side.

| Spartans travel to East Leeds, KO 10:30
We are severely depleted with 6 players definitely out through injury and a further 5 in serious doubt, 3 almost certainly won't play. I hope nobody gets lost on the way to Leeds or we're going to field less than 13 for the first time ever.

| Good win for the Spartans at East Leeds this morning, 28-8; a pretty uncompromising game and a great result for us, given how patched up we were.

| Raiders Under 7's put in a decent performance at home to West Leeds Eagles in a 7 a side game due to them only having this many players. Once again we had to have virtually 2 different teams on through the game due to numbers.
We have been working almost exclusively on defense over the last 4 weeks or so, trying to improve the lads confidence in using shoulders rather than shirt grabbing - this seems to be paying off lately. The lads make a very high percentage of tackles that they attempt, but we still have the issues of them not having any real shape and not moving up as a line (although some of them are starting to show signs of starting) - but we will continue to work on this.
The other thing we have worked on in training is fending, up to the last few weeks we have taught the lads to carry the ball in 2 hands for obvious reasons, but the downside is that if they do make a break then a defender running at the side of them finds them fairly easy to tackle - so putting a little fend on has been covered in training the last couple of sessions. The lads need a bit more coaching as they tended to hand off a little too high but they will get the hang of it.
All in all, a pleasing performance. The younger/less experienced/smaller members of our squad go to Kippax tomorrow evening for a midweek friendly as we really are struggling to get everybody enough game time.
If any Under 7's out there fancy a friendly (either midweek for the next few weeks, or week ends when the summer break comes round) then please let me know. Thanks.

| Spartans RLFC play Upton ARLFC on Sunday morning KO 10:30
The last game between the two was a pretty physical affair with flair and a bit of biff mixed in. Spartans have a few back but still nowhere near full strength so it could be a really close match.
As always there will be plenty of Bacon & Sausage sandwiches to go with the hot tea & coffee.
