Don't see why the need of a full drinking ban during the season. They are not allowed to drink so many days before a game which is fine and understandable.'"
I am not pro a drinking ban whatsoever but i do think at a public apperance at 11-30 in the morning at a family event the day after you have been knocked out of the cup, it is hardly the appropriate time to be having a drink in my opinion.
Its about common sence as for all things in life there is a time and a place, i personally do not think that is it. Its all about setting standards, having a drink with the boys is great and can be a great way to bond the lads but you simply have to understand that there are wider implications to your actions with the example you are setting.

| Agree jonh,
Looks bad when there are kids around who idolise these people.
Nightclub/pub well before/after a game subject to club rules is fine but when representing your club at an event is not fine IMO

So do you tthink it was wrong time for Mcoldrick (sp) to be having a drink?
I don't see anything wrong with it tbh, he is there giving his time up for a good cause and putting money into the club house, aslong as he did not get pis[ised[/i it don't matter. A couple of pints is not going to harm anyone

It is what the club requested - and was done, just not very well apparently!

No player in my opinion should have been drinking at the event, especially at that time in the day. Did not see McGoldrick having a beer which is why i did not comment initially.
This is the mentality we need to change, the 24-36 hours after a game are crucial for recovery from the performance i do not think i need to tell you beer is not going to help this recovery. I can understand the night of a game day the lads going out for a beer to celebrate, but the day after in the morning of a family event, certainly not the time i feel they should be drinking while in the public eye.

The sun article said the beer was in the fridge with a price list.
The beer was NOT in the fridge as it was removed.

SCULLY's DAD made those comments.
I am telling you the other side of the story.

Whilst I completely agree with you on this point, this discussion is now in danger of moving into the realms of a "where did you spot a player supping an ale" hunt. Lets not go there, please, and stick to the topic at hand.
If anyone wants to discuss the relation between the consumption of alcohol and performance in sport, you can create a separate thread. Thanks

Player gets suspended for finding beer and drinking it thus breaking club rules doesn’t quite have the same controversial angle to it. The gutter press will always put a slant on it.
Was the club statement made with the advanced knowledge that Mr Sculthorpe was going to the press? If so, it makes a little more sense now why it was made in the first place.

It was trb who came all high and mighty.
I am saying in the sun paper it said the beer was in the fridge, but that is not true! It was removed from the fridge.

It still makes no sense to me. It's an internal disciplinary matter, not something to be plastered (forgive the pun) on the club website.
Maybe the Sun got wind of the story after the notice had been pinned and reported in the Sporting Life? Maybe they went to Scully's dad because they could get no answer from Scully or the club? Who knows?
