Perhaps we could let a developer have some land out of the green belt and a S106 saying they have to build a hospital in return for the planning gain. Oh, hang on............

It’s too daft to laugh at, there must have been some massive brown envelopes dished out They do. BB also has a number of other contracts with them , such as security and the washing and cleaning etc.
I also remember a piece in the Express when Pinderfields had completed its first year saying basically complaining how much BB had netted in parking that year.

BB made a fortune out of the PFI then sold it on for a massive profit to Cofely, who made a massive profit when they sold it on to Engie, who are the current profiteers. I believe that all the profits are put through an offshore holding to minimise UK taxation as well.

PFI was started by the Tories under Major, and continued with great enthusiasm by the Tories under Blair. It’s a system whereby the private sector takes massive profits but all the risk is borne by the taxpayer. It is bleeding billions out of health, education and other budgets to the detriment of those services.

Do you mean under Labour by Blair - though I accept it hard to tell them apart.

Not a lot of people are true socialists full stop - if they were I'd join them. Sadly a great theory is left powerless by human nature.

The real reason this scheme happened is that people will not pay the correct level of taxes needed to maintain the NHS. Not just rich people but all people.

Until funding the NHS becomes a priority over two weeks in Benidorm or a new BMW these schemes will persist and profiteering will be rife.

All we have done is replace bent civil servants and politicians with uber efficient businessmen who know how to extract every last penny from the public purse.

Exactly what you are seeing at NM. We only have ourselves to blame, as a nation we are now very shallow, full of hot air and indignation about tiny issues that don't matter whilst the real issues remain untouched.

No, I meant what I said. Thatcher considered Blair to be her successor over and above Major, who she despised.

Two weeks in Benidorm pales into insignificance over owning your own Caribbean island paid for by dodged taxes. Until that’s tackled worldwide we’ll see increasing division between the mega rich and the rest of us. The EU have plans to start tackling it, which is why BREXIT really happened - the myth of taking back control used to stoke racism is a smoke screen hiding the influence of seriously wealthy establishment and corporate figures who feared the new regs due to come into law in the EU in March 2019.

Quote: wrencat1873 "Without wishing to turn this into something even more political, what we have currently, following so many years of austerity cuts reminds me of the nonsense that went on in the 80, when competitive
sport was discouraged, so as not to hurt "little Jonny's" feelings when he was last pick every week, which has seen obesity levels balloon.
The austerity cuts that we've had are decimating sporting facilities, especially in Wakefield and the community facilities are probably more important now, than when the plans for Newmarket were hatched.

Sadly, they look likely to be watered down (if they happen at all) and if we take away Wakefields only professional club, this will have a further damaging effect on the health of our youngsters.
The Hepworth and the other arty stuff is great for the City but, we need to get folk off their backsides and actually doing something.'"

This country always seems to have a problem using public money to fund sport facilities. All our athletes train abroad.

Many People cite "It only serves a small percent of the population" well what percentage of Wakefield are interested in contemporary sculpture at the £35 million Hepworth. If we used that argument nothing would ever get built.

Sport is just as important than any art gallery or school.

Supporting a club that has served the community for over 100 years should be a priority.

It has to be remembered that the Trinity itself was started by a church as a way of giving working people a sporting outlet, with many sports pursued. It wasn't started as a rugby club. It's just that rugby became the main focus. That ethos founded our club.

Totally agree, especially at the present time when obesity and all of the related problems are costing the NHS (and the tax payer) a fortune.
Investing in sporting facilities for youngsters should be at the top of the list.
Not only do they become fitter and healthier, it also gives that "team ethos", which although undervalued, is a major life skill, something you cant get from visiting an art gallery.

I'm afraid that's where your wrong. I totally despise tax exiles but in reality they make up a very small amount of missing revenue. Companies are a different matter and do make a difference.

However like it or not there are only a few dozen Bransons and millions of us, roughly 30 million.

If everyone of us paid what we owed thet NHS would be a lot better off.

If everyone of us paid a pound a week extra tax that's 15 billion a year extra for the NHS.It's that simple.

We can blame whoever we like but it's us who needs the NHS not the rich. We need to stop this sence of entitlement we have and accept responsibility for ourselves instead of blaming others. We all need a sense of priority rich and poor and both are as bad. Just because you're poor it doesn't mean you're disolved of any responsbility far from it. In fact that's how they get you and that's how they keep us down.

A copper on tv once said that every knock off dvd, packet of fags or pair of trainers that people buy was a criminal act for which there were no excuses. Because, he said they all led back to organised crime and becuase of that somwhere people were suffering dreadfully or worse dying - just so you could keep up with the Joneses.

Same applies to government, if we don't pay what's needed in taxes the private sector who are often suited criminals will fill the void and buy off politicians. Thats exactly whats happened here.

We need to bring Box to book but our Cas compatriots wont bin him because it doesn't affect them and sadly we'd be just the same if the boot were on the other foot.

All very sad and predictable which is why Box will get away with it.

Taxes are for poor people, not the wealthy elite. The Duke of Westminster avoided around 4 billion pounds in inheritance tax because of Establishment loopholes designed for the wealthy to hang on to their inherited wealth. Branson is a shyster who takes billions from taxpayers to provide poor service and hides the profit overseas. The NHS is set to be the next asset to be sold off to US healthcare giants who are greedily eyeing up the profit opportunities and will degrade NHS provision to encourage those who can afford it to take out insurance.
