Idle was a machine as was Paul McDermott...
Belly came good but I still remember his first couple of seasons (after his Wally partnership) when the team was poor and badly coached and he looked fat and lazy and played like it... I never really forgave him for that period and consequently he was never a favourite player of mine.
Players like John Glancy and Richard Slater deserve mention but my vote goes to Ray Price.. he seemed to hit like a steam train!'"
Wondered when someone was going to say Ray Price !!!
Ran/tackled his blood to water in every game and I seem to remember him saying at the time that if you didn't come off the pitch completely knackered then you hadn't been trying...absolute legend

One he wasn't a legend but lets not go there
Yes he was a great tackler but with only one season under his belt it's not enough for me.
What he did do was something I've rarely seen at BV and that's the sense of professionalism he exhibited and the way others followed.

| Some hit hard and some hit often
The likes of Ray Price and to a much lesser extent Richard Slater, tackled over and over with good technique and high fitness levels. Every team needs one of these. The important part of that is not to miss any. If you stake your claim to tackle everything, you can't run out of steam otherwise you leave a big gap. Belly at his best was that guy too, he made up for fitness with outstanding effort. I've seen all three of these run past team mates to make a tackle when others have given up.
As said Graham Idle was like this too. Never gave up. He'd fit in today's game quite well.
For big hurtful tackles, Ellis was one of our best. He always hit hard, especially when he went to 13. That proved to be his fortune in Oz.
Trevor Skerrett was a big hitter and I remember Dick Jazervich (spell?) coming from Bradford for a short stint and showing how good he was but I don't think we've had that many of this type. Ironically, considering how much Belly gives him grief, Anderson, when he was on the field was a rock in defense. Wasn't spectacular but when people ran at him the looked like they were always surprised how hard they stopped.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one Vasty...definitely one on my top 3 Trinity players of all the time I've been watching (nearly 40 years). The other two being Wally Lewis and Toppo

Yes he was a legend for Australia and Parramatta but for us he was inspirational but not a legend, seriously one season - now we are really getting silly and desperate - come on folks get a grip.
Legends win you trophies and we haven't won either of the biggies since 1968. This is Trinity not Runcorn and legendary status IMO is hard won. The last legends for me were in the sixties and I'm unlovable on that

Nobody said he was, just a legend. Probably my all time fave player. Should have tried to keep him in a coaching job.

Don't think he qualifies as a Trinity legend.... came far too late in his career!!
But he holds legend status at Parramatta... his statue is pretty impressive... wish there was one for Neil Fox in Wakey!

| What makes a legend. Very rarely does a club define a legend with any kind of reward. If it's simply down to winning trophies over the last 10 years or so you would probably only have half a dozen candidates. I quite often find that the term legend s over used but on the other hand I'm sure most club supporter's can form opinions on who is and is not a legend.
A good club club man's probably a thing of the past and I have been lucky enough to see quite a few in a trinity shirt over the years.
I would say that both Wally AND Ray were both rugby legends that I was fortunate to see in the red white and blue.
