| They’ll be nowhere near the Salary Cap.
Just look at the teams that are, the likes of Leeds, St’s, Warrington etc.
Whether the club can afford it, with such poor crowds, is another matter.

Already stated in my last post why we would be able to afford it, maybe we even used some of the staidum loan money, who knows?

| I can't see why this is an issue.
Under the live salary cap they will not be able to register a player if their contract is going to take them over the limit.
I think they are building a good side but like the man said, they are still not Leeds or Saints so I can't imagine this will take them over the ca limit, the question is whether they can afford it. We obviously don't know where they are getting the money but why should it be under hand. Couldn't they just have someone giving them money above board.

I think the idea of not being able to break the salary cap when it's live is a bit of a myth. The NRL have had the system in place for a while and Melbourne have only just been caught this season. Given the ineptness of the game's governing body, it wouldn't surprise me if teams were found to be somehow finding a way around the salary cap at the moment.
I think most people will say it's pretty obvious that we're still nowhere near overspending the cap. John Wilkinson isn't the sort of guy to just blindly throw money around in the way that some teams have done in the past resulting in them going into administration. I think prior to the building of the new ground we were probably curbing our spending a little. Now that the build is finally underway, it must have been decided that we're now going to up the activity in the player market a bit.

If I remember rightly when we sold Gareth Ellis to Leeds we were told something along the lines of "Transfer fees cannot be applied to the salary cap"
I could be wrong, if I am wrong I am sure somebody will correct me.

| As a business strategy, it's good, because the signings, and hopefully performance, will generate some interest going into the new ground in an area that has become apathetic to rugby.
I think we are in a slightly different boat, as we have seen the Wakefield people turn out to Belle Vue when either the on-field stuff has been going well, or the off-field stuff is an attraction, like Diversity, and so for us I think there is a greater appetite for rugby. Wetting it is the issue.

Yes but in Salford's opinion they'll consider say 200k as an added bonus. They're lets say at 50% of the salary cap. Therefore that 200k received can be used towards wages on the salary cap. That ruling was prior to the introduction of the rule that allowed clubs to spend 100% of the Salary Cap regardless of their income

| It confuses me how people fail to do the "simple" maths before coming up with comments regarding reaching or even breaching the salary cap.
Lets say a team is currently operating below, and considerable below, the salary cap and have 23 players. They lose 6 players through retirement, releases, etc and sign 8 new players. Using "simple" maths that leaves you with 25 players, 2 more than the previous season, and unless you are paying Man Utd wages to your new signings your overall salary bill will only slightly increase.
Now can someone jusifiably claim that Salford are "cheating"?

| looks like some people on here seem to think that if you dont spend up to your salary cap it gets carried forward as a brucey bonus!!
if a club does get caught breaking the cap it wont actually come to light until the following season due to the submission of accounts etc.

| Who gives a toss if they have broken the salary cap, they have signed some decent players for next season and the new ground has started to develop, the loyal fans of Salford deserve a bit of luck with what they have had to put up with over the last few years, good luck to em I say. I just wish we could swap places with them atm.

That's not what live means.
The budget is set at the beginning of the year based on previous years income and projections.
Then they pay what they want up to that agreed limit. If they are at the limit and want to get someone else, they have to justify to the RFL that they are going to reduce something before the new registration is added.
