Mathers is not my fav player/person in the world but come on people!!Have we suddenly become top 4 overnight and i missed it??

Better coaches than us have picked him and apart from his spell at Wigan that didnt go well, he has been a far better full back over the years than what we have seen.
He does come over a bit arrogant & a bit of a gobsh..e, but as has been said before if we picked a RL team on players that people liked or that were intelligent, articulate and pleasant company, we would end up playing 5 a side at best.

Lee Smith. No thanks. He is a prime example of a player that has gone backwards to the point of almost no return.

I totaly disagree with you hes not a very good full back wherever hes been thats why he is a journey man. You can get through him quicker than the ancient turnstiles at BV

I agree, there was a time when he looked like he was going to be a top player, but i think somebody told him and his attitude got the better of him.
Since then he has gone backwards IMO, i hope we don't go near him, or if we do, he is reminded of his average abilities and told to improve, significantly.

Not convinced by his ability as a fullback, or his attitude/personality....

however, in games against us last year he was very good from an attacking point of view and operated almost like an extra half back for Cas.


I think he would bring something to the team, provided his ego could be kept in line.

Im not saying he is the greatest, i am saying he is better than what we have recently had/have. At this moment i am just looking for the team/squad to improve and in my opinion, Mathers is an improvement on Veivers and Blaymire. Tony looked good on the few occasions he started there last year but can you see him a) staying injury free and b) maintaining that standard week in/week out?? Currently our only other option would be Cockayne who i think nowadays is seen more as a centre/winger.
