| Captaincy isn’t for everyone and at times can and does affect players in different ways ,sometimes it lays heavy on them and other revel in the extra responsibilities.I’m not saying for one minute drop miller for his indiscretions, but if that time comes, Pitt’s stint as leader at London was none too shabby so for me would be an obvious choice. Or we could throw a curved ball and give big dave a go at leadership, it may just curb his gung-ho attitude and settle him down ,as on his day he’s unstoppable and a crowd favourite , but as we’ve all witnessed he has his demons as well, which are creeping into his game ..Only thinking out loud chaps

Yes, I know. I was agreeing with you.
Do you always jump straight in?

| We've gone off subject here so when I get chance I'll split the two topics, but for me the captain is the best leader. Not the best player. Or a local lad. Or the first picked.
I don't even mind if the leader is off the field for a little bit as long as there is a leadership group behind him.
Pitts for me. With Miller, Lyne and maybe Crowther from what other players say.
Not Dave.

No, I don't, do you ever check what you post and how it reads?
Anyway, I'm fine with your explanation, no need to ignite the war of the roses.

| The captaincy needs some serious though whomever gets it that’s for sure.
People seem to rate Pitts highly but for me Batchelor improved the right side immensely running great lines and more importantly there was marked improvement in the defence on the right when he took the mantle from an injured Pitts.
On form you’d have Tanginoa and Batchelor as starting second rowers but it looks like it will be Ashurst and Tanginoa.
Guess we will find out soon enough.

I don't think I put Ashurst in my top 2 second row any more.
Tanginoa and Batch have it though I thought when Pitts was fit he was good on the right.
Ashurst at his best is great but he took some time to get over his injury and I don't think he's there yet. Hopefully we'll see it again next season.

Tinny has got to be in that leadership group for me

I don’t disagree I was just going by squad numbers. Ashurst for me hasn’t shown anything other than been a solid second row for a while now. He has been quality for us but I can’t see him hitting that form of a few years ago again. He seems to have lost a yard of pace and instead of running those great lines he started bringing it back inside more central.
I agree the two best form SR are tanginoa and Batch. I honestly think Pitts is solid but that’s about it. Steady Eddie type player. Maybe less of a reflection on Pitts than Batchelor form but when Batchelor came in for Pitts he was running lines and making half breaks causing no end of problems. Defence seemed a lot stronger too.

Arona would probably be my shout for captain, as long as he was willing to do it. Leads by example and I don't recall ever coming away from a game thinking he'd given less than 100% - something that certainly cannot be said about everyone.

| Westerman for me, having had plenty of time to watch re runs on Trin tv what I did notice when Joe was on the field was the amount of talking and organising he was doing in the line, ok he’s not going to do 80 minutes but being a seasoned pro he has the experience and hopefully respect of others to be a leader.

That really surprises me.
He clearly has all the attributes you mention above but I've always thought of him as being a loose cannon off the field and not the one you want young players to follow.
If your opinion is otherwise then I would also say he deserves at least a role in the senior group.
