The game would probably be better off without one or two agents. The overwhelming majority act in the players best interests.

And there's the rub - the interests of an individual player are often to counter to the interests of the club that developed him, or the game as a whole.
Personally, I think that the RFL should centralise the work of agents - and while they're at it, they could oversee the creation of a proper players representative body, to replace the 'union' that Wilkin and a few of his mates set up as a lark.

| This deserves it's own thread and not derailing the Johnstone one.
I'll tidy up later.

| We can all pick a great 17 of junior players we wish our clubs had hung onto - Atkins and Ferres are two we let go that we should have kept.
Hope you keep Johnstone, the kid's a special talent.

Didn't appear to "hate" Brian Smith.
I certainly hope they "hate" Chris Chester just as much during the next close season

| Quite interesting when he talks about the juggling and the 06:00 starts; but it's clear that he valued the 1:1 input. An insight into the dichotomy of Smith - weird and brilliant at the same time.

Yes the juggling thing was very interesting, probably one of those things that certain players would get something out of and others would hate. Listening to Tom it's clear BS did some good things while he was here, especially for him personally . On the other hand when he talks about the 6am starts and how buggered they all felt and how Chester has brought that fun back into their rugby that'#s reflected on the pitch, it's sort of shows the positive and negatives of BS coaching style.

But maybe the 6am starts and the fact that they were buggered is the reason the team look extra fit (compared with past seasons) and appears to be well conditioned injury wise?

Yeah the players probably hated it but it has actually done them all some good?

Could very well be, it was just how Tom spoke about it I didn't get that vibe. Maybe I just interpreted it the wrong way.

There can't be many people who relish the thought of getting out of bed at half five for work. Sometimes needs must, at least rugby players know it's hopefully only a short term measure.
