| Quote: vastman "I'm gonna go slightly off piste with this one. I think some of you are underestimating Morris here and I'd be tempted if training and friendlies to start him. I know he's raw but so is Hall at centre, however he is very very enthusiastic and competitive and probably more athletic. If he is as potentially good as some suggest (bit of a hot property as a speculator) then as we all know backs can cement their place and reputation very quickly if they are as good as they appear.
Think we need to hit the ground running and although I except Halls mitigating injuries he will IMHO never be that kind of player. Also I feel he should have to wait his chance, he certainly shouldn't get any position by right especially one he was renowned at HKR for being not very good at.
BJB
Johnstone, Gibson, Morriss, Tupou or Owen
Miller, Finn
Scruton, Sio, Anderson or Walker (not convinced by Anderson)
Tupou, Kirmond
Arona
Moore, England, Simon, Ashurst or Anakin'"
I can't comment on Morris because I've never seen him play, but Hall appears to be the only centre we have capable of putting his winger away. It's not a problem for Tupou because he's strong enough to be used as a battering ram to help the forwards out where as Johnstone isn't. At least not yet. But he's got pace to burn and needs to be put in space, and Hall can do that for him. The only issue with playing them together would be the defence. Opponents would target them and I'm not sure Hall is someone you'd want protecting a young winger in those situations. Offensively though, no problems at all.

| I bet Brian Smiths really grateful for all the inside information he can access from the site. Maybe one of you could compile a run down of players ability, strength s and weaknesses along with collar, shoe waist sizes. If you could also supply a mental and physical health statement that would be great. Dietary and training plans would be much
appreciated for individual players. Old school reports can prove very handy.
Some of you should really read back the utter tosh you write .

| Luckily this is a fans forum and not a forum for professional coaches then isn't it. To be honest I'd not thought about Morris as he is one definitely under the radar. I'd absolutely love it if an unknown British prospect did a great job for us.

| As a fan not one who thinks he is a coach...I'd like to see the following 17 out of the squad to start with (unless others play their way into the team through pre season)
1. Ben Jones-Bishop
2.Tom Johnstone
3. Joe Arundel (think BS will favour him ahead of Hall)
4. Ashley Gibson
5. Bill Tupou
6. Jacob Miller
7. Liam Finn
8. Nick Scruton
9. Michael Sio
10. Anthony England
11. Danny Kirmond
12. Anthony Tupou
13. Tninrau Arona
14. Scott Anderson
15. Mikael Simon
16. Jon Molloy (surely ahead of Ashurst after last season)
17. Scott Moore (assuming he's signed)

| How does Kirmond get in everyone's team?
He wouldn't get in mine, with his recent performances. With the depth that we have in that position he shouldn't be a certainty.
Appreciate he's the captain but not been good enough for a while, in my opinion.

| Agree we need a new captain and new attitude in the squad . Kirmond will have to earn his place . I can't believe that some on here don't have Anakin in their team yet soft lad Anderson gets in.

| Kirmond for long enough was playing injured so do you make no wonder he could not put It together in the games against Sheffield and Bradford he looked a lot sharper and fitter than for some time. One things for sure BS has plenty of options on who he plays where so should keep all players giving it their all.

Fans can often see a lot of things coaches can't, be that due to being matey or blindness of the truth.
The Agar saga is a prime example; also the Kear fascination with Tommy Lee ?
These are only a couple of recent years examples of fans seeing things coaches don't. There are many but I can't be d to think back. The point being no matter how good the coach is, they do get it wrong a sometimes.

If a RL forum isn't for giving, receiving and sharing opinions on RL then what the hell is it for?

Because Anderson is a prop all be it an average one, give up with the soft lad nonsense it makes you sound like a Mopsey wanna be.
I'd have Anakin in the squad but in the S/R where he is far more effective IMO, he's not a prop IMO and you know that more than most. If you want replace Anderson I'm fine with that but don't do it by ruining Anakin by playing him in a position in which long term he can't IMHO manage.
I know you think he's the new Nigel Bell but he isn't and it's a different game now anyway.
That's how I see it FWIW.

It annoys me when some fans talk with utter authority about things they haven't got a clue about - they use expressions like "realist", "he's never a Centre", and the proverbial "we don't have enough props".
However they are easy enough to shoot down. Others are just expressing an opinion rather than stating fact - so I really can't see what your beef.
When some posters come on here, you know the ones talking as if they know more than Brian Smith you just have to laugh. I can tell you now there is not a single poster on here who has anything like Smith knowledge and experience and that include you try scorer! Nor does anyone on here know the current and probable pre season dynamics of the team other than Smith and his team. That above all else is the big flaw in the arguments put forward by the touchline Coaches on here.
We the fans will only be able to voice our opinion after the first five game - as watching games is the only guide we have - so for now it's a bit of fun so stay cool man
