| I was embarrassed to wear my t- shirts in Disney world the other year - everyone seemed to think I was a 40 year old High School Musical fan ! Needless to say the wildcats stuff stay'd in the suitcase rest of the holiday .
Personally I think " trinity " is unique anyway & we don't need a nickname .

| However badly thought out and badly executed (or not) it was at the time the Wildcats name has to stay for the next Generation of fans coming through. It's been done to death about the name, and some people on here seem to struggle to grasp its not us that need to be inticed in with the name, its not us who need to be attracted to the team - its the kids. Rightly or wrongly we have the name now and to drop it would undo the good work we have done getting it established.
Call the club whatever you want, but the WIldcats branding has to remain basically the same now to keep trying to make the most of kids who potetnially could support the team.

Maybe this can be turned into a positive then, suggest the club offers more of a range of leisure wear with the old school badge and Trinity branding.
Get somebody to knock together a "retro" or "heritage" range to complement the Wildcats branded gear, old school British Coal shirts, Dreadnoughts Caps, Fleus De Lis T-Shirts etc all with a similar colour scheme so its easily identifyable with the rest of the range but subtely different so those hankering for the good old days can spend their money on them and the kids can go decked out in the Wildcats range.
Every ones a winner.....

| Wildcats is a bland brand, Trinity is an iconic brand. Does everything have to be dummed down to appeal to kids.
To say kids will only become interested because of a daft moniker does a disservice to the excellent work to community department do. That wouldn't change. Also if the rumours are true then having a moneyman on board who can make the team competitive will see kids naturally gravitate to the club.

No - Trinity is an iconic brand to old farts and diehards, of the type that frequent this forum and as such, are already bought in and loyal.
My kids come to most games with me and I can assure you that Trinity means absolutely nothing to them, but they love the Wildcats branding; both clamour for a high-5 from Daddy Cool and my daughter absolutely loves the Dolls. I suspect most youngsters are largely the same.
Some serious 'getting over ourselves' needs to take place in respect of branding and identity in my view; to suggest that years of creating the Wildcats brand should be chucked out, just to satisfy the misty-eyed sentimentality of a few old giffers (myself included) is bonkers. It shouldn't happen and I can't imagine that it ever will - that ship has sailed.

The fact that Trinity means nothing to your kids is a depressing thought and I would suggest its because the club have neglected the Trinity name since the inception of the Wildcats tag.
I'm 30, so not exactly an old fart. I put a high value on on the history and tradition of the club, something that many people use as a pointer to why they think its ridiculous to drop Trinity from SL.
It seems people are prepared to throw away over a 100 years of brand building for the sake of 10.

Three words; Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
It could be argued that the club need to do more with the middle one, but I think it would be a marketing disaster to drop the Wildcats tag at this stage of the game; that decision, if it was to be made, would have to have been taken right at the beginning, when the Americanisation of RL started.
Out of interest, since we definitely have the best mascot in SL, I wonder who the kids would be high-5'ing if the club had done a Saints and stuck with Trinity?

To be fair I thinks it only from the moaning on here that the club started to include the word Trinity in the match reports.
Re: the Mascot, I agree he is a great one and gets the kids involved, but then does the mascot have to literally tie in with the team name? I'm sure there are examples where the mascot has no relevance to the club, but are enjoyed all the same by the kids.

| The word 'Wildcats' can still be the nickname of the club without being part of the name. The problem is, and you can understand why, when described in the press, on TV and radio, it's always the middle word that goes (unless it's Andy Wilson in The Guardian.)

And Stevo, tw@ though he may be, always calls us Trinity; although annoyingly, the sentence usually includes the word 'outfit'.

I'm a big fan of 'would be tackler'. That's my favourite.

| OK, take for example the young kids who play junior RL locally who they play for, you will get answers back such as:
Knights
Wolves
Panthers
Raiders
Dragons
I would be willing to bet that very, very few would tell you they played for Normy, Westgate, Castleford, Oulton or Eastmoor. Like it or not its part and parcel of the game and has to stay in my opinion. Kids expect "their" team to have a nickname and however ill thought out and irrelevent the original name was we have made our bed now and need to lie with it.
You are extremely unlikely to ever stop watching us becuase of the 'Wildcat' branding, but I would be more than confident in saying that you risk loosing letting a fair few slip through the net. Take areas like Normanton for example when we are basically competing for fans, who is more likely to atract the attention of a brand new fan - the team called "Tigers" with its distinct branding and kid freindly marketing or "Trinity" with its funny squiggle that may youngsters will probably struggle to identify.
Simply has to stay for me.
