| Quote: vastman "You can do it two ways imho.
A true Cantilever is not on, there simply aren’t the foundations required.
The cheaper option is a Propped Cantilever. It will have two middle stanchions to support the roof that will obscure the view a little. However they are so far back they will only affect about 20% of the capacity.
The better but more expensive method is what’s called a Goal Post construction. Which as the name suggests is a massive girder that is supported by an equally massive post at each end. The roof is then hung beneath. You can only use this method at the ends of grounds, nobody can produce an unsupported girder any longer than 50 meters, or not at a cost that would be viable. It does offer 100% unobstructed viewing.
There is a brilliant example of this type of construction at Carrow Rd Norwich, but it’s fairly common and can be scaled up or down. In fact the small roof on the west terrace is a propped cantilever of sorts.
Ballpark figures.
Propped Cantilever, about 300k
Goalpost around 800k.
I’m being an anorak here, and you probably know all this anyway, but hey.
Preston North End and the main stand at Anfield arenother examples.

They are very common, and especially good when being used to re-roof an existing structure. I’ll have to get my Football grounds of Great Britain book out. Though a lot of them will have gone now in place of new stadium builds.

Never fails to amaze me just how big that stand looks. You’d swear it wouldn’t fit there now, but it would.

| Just seen a planning application has gone in for a new rood and tv gantry along the west stand. Doesn't seem to go all the way.
No amendments to terracing. Perhaps a temp measure for the interim until a full design had been finalised

| It looks like we're going to extend the roof that is already there. It seems an obvious first step until we know where we will be crowd-wise in a few years.

It looks like the media facilities are extending forward to the edge of the terracing as well.

| That will increase capacity as the area under the gantry will allow more fans.

| I can’t imagine they’ll build that without doing something about the terracing.
The works required to put that roof in place will further degrade the concrete that’s currently there and probably create dangerous trip hazards.

The terracing is ok imo just to low to pitch level. Looks like a one season wonder to me, surprised it even needs planning permission.
Good idea as at least the weather won’t put people off. I’m assuming they have sold out the north stand now, meaning the west is all that’s left.

You’re right, I’ve just read the planning details and it says no change to the existing terracing.
By the way theres and opportunity for the public to add comments supporting or objecting, I don’t suppose it would harm if people left their opinions on there.
