Quote: cocker "I would have preferred them to concentrate on this season while it was still possible to stay up ! Attitude is a major factor in situations like ours, you only had to listen to JD and see the enthusiasm from Fifita to see that. !
Applegarth while trying to keep a lid on last night came over too relaxed .....it was the one match we realistically could win and at home . Unfortunately a lot of the players came out with the same attitude and it failed miserably. Looking at Cas they had it spot on last night ...new coach, new ideas and new players giving there all....great attitude.'"

I agree with what you say, apart from it having any relevance to building a side for next year.
How much worse would the attitude have been if the players had signed elsewhere.

Which players are you referring to ? because I don't think our attitude could have been much worse. We are not even making the most of the players we have..imo . Dagger on the bench , Franco now fit , Eseh giving way to 10/15 min man Proctor ? Our lives are hanging by a thread and not enough of those on the field last night seemed particularly concerned or good enough to do anything about it . Sounds like reserves have gone well today so lets hope we see the changes next Friday.

I absolutely agree about Dagger. Massive mistake.
Franco I'm a big fan but he's had an injury which kept him out for weeks. Hasn't played in reserves yet. That would have been a big risk and Lineham had improved form (which he threw away last night)
Proctor wouldn't play again for me. Complete waste of space.

But it's not correct to say they all had a bad attitude. There were some players busting a gut let down by players just not able to do the basics right.

I didn't say that, however you do seem to putting words into people's mouths PT.

What is the logic of buying championship standard players if you're wanting to stay up, it's four years of doing that, that's got us where we are now

You said you thought the board were being negative by completing contracts for 2024.
So what did you mean? All I said was I don't understand your logic.

What's hard to understand.

We're in the top flight, trying to survive, and it was quoted we are preparing a 2024 squad, for the championship, a level lower.

At one point when we went into the lead, and just before Lineham's c*** up, Cas looked so jaded in their attack that for three consecutive tackles in their ten meter area, they appeared almost "voluntary" tackles, which used to be a penalty offence. Where they got that subsequent second wind from I don't know.

Just read a Leeds rhinos article and it mentions who there may be to pick up from Wakeys bones once relegated as targets for 2024.

Whitbread and Eseh were the two featured.

I hope more than anything we have tied Eseh down for next year whatever league we’re in. It would be gutting to lose a player who is likely going to be ready for regular SL soon after nurturing him.

I feel the same way but I think if/when we’re relegated then Eseh will be on his way. Just a gut feeling.

I hope just for one year if the money is invested that players like Eseh will stay for a year to help win us the championship and a return to the top flight.

At the very least I think as he is under 23 and from our academy the mandatory fees will apply (like Shaw and Croft).

If there’s investment for next year and we do end up in the championship then I can’t say I won’t be looking forward to winning the majority of our games and likely reaching finals.

They were probably buoyed by Lineham's "gift".
It was a shocker but, we couldnt defend the next set which, if we still have any vain hope of winning another game this season, we have to defend better than we did v Cas.
The "performance" on Friday still irks, our basic skills were bloody awful and we basically beat ourselves.
If that is the best that we can muster, we deserve to be relegated.
The writing was on the wall before the season began. The pre season mauling by FC was enough of an indicator and we waited until halfway through the season to try and change things.
Ultimately, too little, too late.

I'd like to think if certain people do the right thing, and allow the takeover to happen, that we look at our younger players, and do a bit more in trying to retain them.

I get that they don't have the experience to demand a top end contract, but people like Lewis Murphy is a prime example as to where things arent always black and white. Made his debut early last season, built a reputation, and quickly established himself, and was first choice at the start of the year.

The question you have to ask, at any point has an offer to improve his current deal been offered, before the NRL became interested. Eseh is steadily following.

Do we even offer young players incentives, such as bonuses for every so many games played etc, other clubs do
